As the days have become shorter and the weather more inclement, Parwich musicians have busied themselves writing and recording music. We have permission to publish work from both The A52s and Hazel B.

Hazel B

Hazel Beddows has been writing songs since she was 13. She is currently 15 and has been a regular at local open mic sessions. The highlight of 2011 was playing on the open mic stage at the Y Not Festival…including a request to do an encore. Hazel has just completed a recording session at Meadow Farm Recording Studio – lyrics, music, voice and guitar are all by Hazel B.

The A52s

The A52s are the hardest working acoustic folk-rock band in Parwich……when they’re not discussing music trivia in the Sycamore over a pint of Double Hop whilst munching crispinoes. Check them out at www.thea52s.co.uk.

It is with some relief to us all that The A52s are now unable to play at The Legion this evening – Saturday 29th October at 8.30pm. Apparently they are all too scared of Hallowe’en.

However we have some good news! In their place, The Legion have secured at last minute the services of Dexy’s Chainsaw Massacre - another local band sounding remarkably like The A52s. They are much more scary than our familiar bunch of lads but still drink as much beer.

The band hope to see you there this Saturday evening. Be there and be scared!

The Strongman Competition – Video

Many thanks to Tim Yeomans for videoing last Saturday’s outstanding Strongman Competition. Tim has edited the whole three hour event down to a marvellous 10 minute film which captures the spirit of this event; the strength and determination of the competitors, the music of The A52s and the enjoyment of the crowds. Let’s hope that this event becomes a regular part of the village calendar.

2.30pm – Registration, Bar opens and The A52s are going to play for a half hour or so.

3/3.30pm – BBQ should be ready

3-3.15pm – Event starts. We will run through three events and then have a break for about 45 minutes

Interval – The A52s will play some more.

Then we shall re-commence with last three events.

After the events have finished and winner is announced we will draw the raffle.

The A52s will then play another slot. We have the bar until 8pm.

Event for all to try.
We have a tyre flinging event for the non competing adults and a mini tyre flinging event for the kids.
£1.00 adults and 50p for the under 14′s, each winner will win a prize

Lucy Burlinson will be face painting.

Hidden Gardens and Courtyards Of Wirksworth

The A52s have sent us a message to say that they will be playing acoustic music during the afternoon of Saturday 11th June as part of the Hidden Gardens and Courtyards of Wirksworth event. The band will be based in the Wirksworth Community Garden near to the railway station.

The gardens will be open today and tomorrow from 12pm to 5pm. Further details can be found by clicking here.

Ashbourne Breast Cancer Walk

The 2011 Ashbourne Breast Cancer Walk will take place at Carsington Water this Saturday afternoon.

The ABCW website says:

Do something amazing this year and join us on the Ashbourne Breast Cancer Walk, open to walkers of all ages both men and women. Enter as a family or get together some friends from your work, college, school or community. Even get the neighbours involved, every person counts!

The starting point will be the ABCW Marquee, located in the field to the left prior to Carsington Visitor Centre leaving at 2.30pm. Therefore early arrival is recommended for all walkers. Registration is required from all walkers including children.

As an added bonus, The A52s will be providing entertainment before and after the walk along with two other bands. Last year, it was a hoot with some very sprightly grannies throwing their shapes…..

Who knows what characters will turn up this year!

The A52s Play The Legion Tonight!

The A52s would be delighted to play for you this evening , Saturday 19th March, in The Parwich Legion. The set will start around 8.30pm.

The band will be adding a slight irish tinge to their normal blend of folk and acoustic rock in honour of St. Patrick’s Day….or maybe to ease the pain of the defeat Ireland will surely receive at the hands of the England Rugby Team today!

Everyone is welcome! Admission free!
