p6.  Hunting down your heroes.  The hunt is on for community heroes as DCC seaches for Excellence in the Community award winners.  The council wants to hear about individuals or groups who have worked tirelessly to raise money for good causes, to encourage closer, caring and active communities etc.  Forms available from libraries next week and from the Council’s website.

It is with great sadness that Parwich and District Horticultural Society have made the decision to not hold their annual show this year. At a committee meeting held last week there was much discussion regarding alternative venues, due to the rebuild of the Memorial Hall, and possible changing the format of the show.

However, it was decided that it would be better to `have a year off` rather than run a sub standard show.

With the new Memorial Hall due to be ready for next year’s show we hope that all exhibitors will help us to make use of the new facilities by ensuring that the Main Show in 2010 will be bigger and better than before.

Don’t forget about next week’s trip; the Hanging Basket competition currently taking entries; or the Bob Matthews Quiz that will take place on the evening of Thursday 8th October at the Sycamore Inn.

Here are some photographs from last Saturday’s concert by the de Parys Trio.  The evening was a fantastic success both musically and financially raising some £830 for the Church restoration fund, though the lady who lost her ring might want to click here.  For more photos

The Trio, Eric Hill on guitar, Jill Hughes on flute and Martin Hughes on violin, came together because of their common links to Bedford School.  Their programme was very varied, with something for everyone, including works by J S Bach, Gaetano Donizetti, Heitor Villa Lobos, Gabriel Fauré, Eric Hill and Dmitry Shostakovich.  We hope to have some video clips from the evening on-line soon and Martin will be producing DVDs and CDs of the evening to buy.

Thank to to all who supported the evening, the musicians who gave their time for free and to Longcliffe Calcium Carbonates who sponsored the event.
