DONATE YOUR LARGE ELECTRICALS TO A GOOD CAUSE

Fed up with your fridge? Weary of your washing machine? Are you thinking of making a change?

If you are planning to replace any large, working household appliances then why not donate them to a good cause.

Instead of sending good quality items to be recycled, give them to your local furniture reuse project who will give them a new lease of life.

Derbyshire County Council is teaming up with Ashbourne’s Encore Reuse Furniture Project to hold a household electricals collection event on Saturday June 16 from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

They are encouraging people to bring along their old but working white goods like washing machines, fridges, freezers and microwaves.

They also would welcome any smaller, reusable electrical items such as hairdryers, CD players and laptops.

Patrick Sandner from Encore Reuse said:

As we are a charity we rely on the goodwill and donations of the public in order to keep running. We provide a service that helps people furnish their homes on a tight budget.

Encore’s staff will test all donated appliances before selling them on to low income households meaning that your old items will get a whole new lease of life.

You also have the chance to enter into a prize draw to win £50 of shopping vouchers if you donate your electrical items.

Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Recycling and Technology John Allsop said: “Reuse is the very best method of making sure that less waste is sent to landfill.

“Furniture projects play a big role in this and they also offer budget conscious families the opportunity to benefit from low cost, good quality household items.

“By donating your electrical items to a furniture project, you are not only helping the environment, you are also helping other people to create homes to be proud of.”

If you are unable to bring bulky items to the collection event and you live within 10 miles of Ashbourne, Encore Reuse offers a free home collection service.

Call 01335 300907 and they will arrange a suitable time and date to collect your large item. Quote “Derbyshire County Council” when calling to be entered into the free prize draw.

The collection event is on Saturday 16 June from 9.30am to 4.30pm at Encore Reuse, Henmore Trading Estate, Mayfield Road, Ashbourne DE6 1AS

Nethergreen Road will be closed from noon to 10pm on Tuesday 5th June, between the Jubilee Pond and Blanche Meadow Farm. Traffic will be diverted along Creamery Lane, past the Church to The Green.

Val & Alison (Catering 4 Parwich) would appreciate any help in making sandwiches – Memorial Hall from 11.30am on Tuesday.

All help is welcome in setting up (from 2pm) and clearing up after the celebrations on Tuesday.

If wet the Tea Party will take place in the Memorial Hall.

Boat Race – Children are to bring along the boats that they have either made at home or school.

Torches for the Torchlight Parade will be on sale at £2 from Denis at Rock House and also at the Tea Party.

Details of how to get your own copy of the Commemorative Photograph will be available on Parwich.org and on the notice boards.

Transport can be made available for anyone that is unable to get to the tea on their own. Please ring Caroline Healy 390378.

I don’t know whether anybody is able to help but I am trying to locate a sixty year old woman, Lesley (nee Yates), with whom I attended Lady Manners School in Bakewell. Being our sixtieth year, a school reunion has been arranged for the first weekend in July. I have only recently been contacted but, due to the passage of time being an obstacle to finding people’s whereabouts, I was asked if I could assist with locating others, one being Lesley Yates.

I think Lesley lived in Great Longstone, near Bakewell, during our schooldays. I believe that she subsequently moved to Parwich after marrying a local man from the village, although I cannot recall her married name. The reason that this sticks in my mind is that I am originally a Brownson (father Wallace Brownson who married Stephanie, paternal uncle Godfrey Brownson who married Mary, paternal grandparents Wallace and Clara Brownson from Townhead and The Cottage, Nether Green) and I remember being envious that Lesley lived in the village that held some lovely childhood memories for me. In fact, I have just spent the last two hours reminiscing over photographs, tales and information on the internet.

Lesley will now be around 60 years old.
