Parwich Village Action Group was set up in 2000 in response to a Peak District National Park Authority and Parwich Parish Council public meeting in the village. Our initial purpose grew out of the PDNPA’s Discovering Village Initiative and was to undertake a Village Survey and agree a Village Management Plan.
The Group covers the parish of Parwich and works in conjunction with Parwich Parish Council to update and where appropriate implement the Village Management Plan’s objectives. The Group has achieved remarkable success in relation to environmental improvements, the building of the three houses at Parson’s Croft and improving the children’s play equipment on the Green.
The Village Management Plan for many funding bodies is a recognised means of demonstrating need, and can be used by other local groups in addition to the Action Group itself to support funding applications. Also it is a way of highlighting our local situation to the Peak Park Authority and other statutory bodies.
Parwich Village Management/Action Plan (last up-dated 2004)
There are current aims and objectives under the following headings, please click on each heading for more information:
- Affordable Housing
- Environment
- Children, Teenagers and Young Adults
- Community & Sports Hall Facilities
- Roads and Traffic
- Topics for further investigation
Since the 2004 revision of our Management Plan circumstances have changed in relation to the progress on establishing a new Memorial Hall and potential knock on effects in relation traffic and parking. Also the Peak Park Authority are looking for communities that want to create their own Conservation Area Management Plans, following the Conservation Area Appraisals (the Parwich Appraisal was undertaken last year).
The Management Plan is due for reviewing. Parwich Parish Council and the Peak Park Authority have indicated their support for updating the Plan.
The Coordinating Group feel that yet another survey or questionnaire would be counter productive, so we would welcome any suggestions on alternative ways of establishing what the community see as the current priorities.
Coordinating Group
The Coordinating Group meets as required and reports annually to the Open Meeting of Parwich Parish Council. Members are nominated at a public meeting of the whole Village Action Group which should occur at least once every four years. The Coordinating Group must include a representative of the Parish Council and representatives of any active sub-groups. They will then appoint a Chair, Secretary and Treasurer from amongst its members, which currently are:
- vacant – Chair
- vacant – Secretary
- Ann Griffiths – Parwich Parish Council Representative
- Val Kirkham – (Community Hall and Sports Hall Facilities)
- Peter Trewhitt – Environment
- Janice Wigley – Treasurer & Affordable Housing
- vacant – Children, Teenagers & Young Adults
- vacant – Roads and Traffic
As can be seen there are gaps on the Coordinating Group and more members are required. Over the last few years the Group has lost its momentum, and if it is to continue it needs new blood.

Dear Clerk,
I am writing to advise you of an event that will impact upon your parish on Saturday 30th May 2009. The event in question is a sportive bike ride and is part of the Bike Radar Live festival at Donington Park. The route begins here and goes up into the Peak District via Carsington Water to Hartington before returning through the Manifold Valley towards Ashbourne and back to Donington.
I was hoping that by writing to you, you would be able to help inform local residents. In addition to this letter we are planning to put up advanced signage on Monday 11th May to further warn people of the event and the extra activity that it will bring to the area.
The event will begin at 8am and the last rider is expected to be back at Donington by 4pm. A route sweeper will close the route in accordance with the following cut off schedule.
Eggington Common (outbound) 9am
Duffield 10am
Parwich 11am
Grindon 12pm
Stanton 1pm
Longford 2pm
Willington 3pm

It is hoped that disruption will be kept to a minimum but we do appreciate that some inconvience will be caused and for this we apologise.
If you have any questions regarding the event please do not hesitate to contact me and I shall do my best to help.
Yours Faithfully,
Stuart Tomlinson
P.S. Please accept my apologies for the somewhat informal email, I was hoping to find an address for the council but was unsuccessful.
The above has been forwarded to Parwich Parish Council, whose email address is ppccl@fsmail.net
