Tom has convinced the judges this week that he is a dancer, with his foxtrot gaining three tens. The competition could hardly be closer, with three of the four couples in equal first after the first round.
The Foxtrot (including some great footage shot in The Sycamore, from 0:53).
His rumba attracted mixed comments, but overall Tom and Camilla are in second place. However, this may not be enough to ensure they get through to the semi-finals.

The results can be seen on tomorrow night’s show at 8-15pm on BBC 1 (Sunday). Will Tom escape the dance off?

The Defra consultation on direct elections to National Park Authorities (NPA) closed a week ago, but the recent visit of the Politics Show to Parwich got us galvanised and the Village Action Group sent in a response. The Action Group strongly supported the position of readers of PARWICH.ORG and Parwich Parish Council, arguing for some form of direct elections to NPA Boards.
The letter quoted a senior civil servant who described National Parks as ‘the last outpost of colonialism‘, however they refrained from quoting a Parwich resident who was a little more colourful ‘ **** Park planners: a condom on the p**** of progress‘. Fortunately Defra agreed to receiving this contribution after their deadline, and it can be read in full by clicking here.

We’re sorry to report that Elvis has had to pull out of his performance at The Legion this Saturday evening. We understand that at this busy festive time, his shelf-stacking commitments in the Biscuit Department at Tescos have proved too much for him.
"It'll be a bloooooo Christmas without me........ Thank you very much."
No worries though! Shaun has stepped up to the mark and will provide us with one of his famous karaoke nights instead. Come on down and sing your hearts out!

This week on Strictly Come Dancing Tom and Camilla are dancing a rumba and a foxtrot. The programme starts at 6-05pm this evening with everyone welcome to come and watch it on the big screen at the Sycamore Inn, which has been visited twice by BBC film crews this week. Click here to see the vicar’s video clip of Tom’s ‘quiet’ drink on Tuesday evening.
The phone lines are open this eveniong from approximately 7-25pm to 9pm. Although Tom has got over his dose of flu, the competition will be very close. The public vote will be estential for anyone to be sure of getting through to the semi-finals.

Septic tank advice / recommendation
Can anyone recommend a good septic tank adviser / fixer? Our septic tank is not smelling too good but I don’t want to take a name out of the yellow pages and then find that I’ve called a cowboy who advises us to do lots of things which didn’t actually need doing.

Derbyshire Constabulary are warning people not to leave their cars unattended with the engine running following a car theft in Glossop.
On Wednesday, December 3, a man was scraping the ice from his car windows, he left the engine of his Volkswagen Golf running while he briefly returned to his doorstep. Whilst his back was turned, someone jumped into the car and drove off.

Damage to Vehicles @ Ashbourne
Ashbourne Police are appealing for witnesses to 3 crimes of criminal damage to cars on Saturday night 29/11/08 between 10pm & 1040pm on Cockayne Avenue & The Green Road.
It is known that a group of youths were in the area at the time and we would like to identify these youths so that enquiries can be continued.

This evening Tom, Clare and Camilla spent over an hour in the Sycamore Inn, enjoying a brief break from the ultra-intensive schedule of Strictly Come Dancing. The BBC from London were there, as well as local reporters. A very lively crowd of regulars as well as visitors tried to get the camera crew to pre-record us all wishing the nation’s viewers a Happy Christmas …

Well done to the children making up Parwich School Council for suggesting their fund raising project, and to all the other children who supported them in raising £45-61 in 1p and 2p coins for Children in Need.
I am certainly glad I did not have to count some 3 to 4 thousand coins.
This year Children in Need have raised £20,991,261 so far!

Tom Chambers and his dance partner Camilla Dallerup will be visiting Parwich today. This is only the second time Tom has managed to get home since his wedding. They will be at the Sycamore Inn around 8pm.
He is keen to see as many of his old friends as possible and to thank everyone for the local support he has received. Also at this stage in the competition, with so little dividing the contestants on the leader board, public popularity is essential if they are to get through this Saturday’s quarter finals.

A few crimes to report – At around 2100 hours, 12th September 2008, damage was caused to a house door in Kniveton village by an unknown person banging on it. Also at Kniveton, on 27th September 2008, at 3pm, a Distraction Burglary occurred. A male caller stopped at a Cottage, and asked for a container of water, as his car was overheating. Whilst the occupant went to fill the container, the caller stole a wallet from the premises. On the same day a similar incident occurred at Shirley.
We have had a few thefts from motor vehicles. Between 14th July and 27th September 2008 a Land Rover Discovery parked at a farm at Parwich, was broken into and items stolen. On 17th September 2008 between (more…)

For those of you who may have missed yesterday’s Politics Show on BBC1, here’s a chance to catch up with the segment of the programme which featured Parwich residents (Lynette, Peter, Chris, Ray and Karen) expressing their desire to see greater democratic accountability within the Peak District National Park Authority. Well done to all of them for making their cases so eloquently.

Derbyshire police have launched a new telephone number today.
0345 123 3333
The force has changed just one digit of its existing number to make the new number easier for people to remember. The number 0345 123 3333 is now their non emergency number. People can ring it to speak about any policing matter which is not a 999 emergency.
It replaces the former number of 0845 123 3333. Under the new system callers will pay no more than they do for calling geographical numbers which begin 01 and 02.
