Can you help?

Via Parwich.org, may I ask if anyone out there has a machine that would copy 2 videos on dvd for us?

Many thanks! Debbie W (568)

pates3This is the final Lent Lunch of the year and it is being held at John & Marion Fuller-Sessions – Orchard Farm.  Pop in anytime on Thursday 26th March from 12.30pm, with lunch finishing at 2pm.   (If you know that you are definitely coming let Marion know on 519 – but otherwise just pop in – there will be plenty of food!!) Enjoy a range of cheeses, pates and bread – more fun that making your own lunch.

You don’t have to be a member of the Church to enjoy this lunch; it is a community event to raise funds for Church repairs (via a donation for the lunch). After all, we like seeing the Church in our village – so let’s help keep it in good repair.  Everyone is welcome, including children.

Netball report

Sent in by Nia, our roving sports reporter…

The ladies of Parwich have had two fantastic victories in the last two weeks.  The Leek league is made up of young fit women and girls but they are no match for the steely- eyed determination and the years of experience that we display.  Our first victims were Leek Hockey Club who had all the confidence of youth.  They watched us putting on knee supports, trying to hide post baby tummies and struggling to move with grace and energy and decided they were in for an easy victory.  However…….

A reminder that Parwich Primary School are collecting vouchers from The Times and Sunday Times for free books for schools.  Please send in to school any vouchers you have or can collect, beg, steal or borrow.  There is a collection box in the entrance hall or you could pass your vouchers to anyone with children at the school.  Even if you only have one voucher, please hand it in as some books can be obtained with as little as 10 vouchers.   Thank you for your help.

Who are the Pets of Parwich?

Calling all pet owners!

We would like to know more about the pets of Parwich, Alsop, Pikehall and Ballidon – so please send your photos to parwich@hotmail.co.uk

We’d also like to know something about who your pets are. For instance:
* What are their names?
* Why did you choose those names?
* Do they belong to a particular breed?
* Where did they come from?
* What strange quirks do they have?

If we receive any funny or unusual photos, we might also use them in a caption competition.

All those computer-literate kids in the village might like to join in on this one! So please, take a photo of your pet and send it to us, with lots of interesting information about your pet.  We will only publish your first name – or no name at all if you prefer – and not your surname. (And please, do get your parent’s permission first.)

This week’s Stunner

This week’s edition of the Ashbourne News Telegraph contains a few stories of local interest.  Don’t forget you can buy it from Janet in the Sycamore or access the free e-edition by following this link.

p.3 – Hope for Flood Protection

A meeting has been organised in Ashbourne between Severn Trent, the Environment Agency, Derbyshire Dales District Council and Derbyshire County Council to discuss the future of flooding protection in Ashbourne following last summer’s floods.  The Environment Agency has confirmed that a flood alleviation scheme is under way in Ashbourne.  Although not of direct interest to Parwich, it begs the question as to whether flood alleviation measures are also being carried out in Parwich.

p.4 – Seeking firms to sponsor bra walk fund-raiser

Again, a headline which caught my eye – sponsorship is being sought for a sponsored walk around Carsington Water in aid of breast cancer charities to take place on May 16 at 2pm.  Participants will be encouraged to wear a decorated bra for the event.  And don’t forget, we are also still seeking firms to sponsor the building of the new Parwich Memorial Hall – for more information, follow this link. Happy birthday to us.

Exactly one year ago today, PARWICH.ORG was officially launched. With 1400 blog posts, 1525 comments and over 150,000 page views under our belts to date, it’s been quite a journey – and we hope you’ve enjoyed the ride so far.

Thanks to all our readers – both within the Parwich/Alsop/Ballidon/Pikehall district and further afield – for supporting this experiment, and helping to make it a success. We would particularly like to thank all those who have so generously supplied us with articles, photographs, newsletters, posters, calendar dates and the like. Scarcely a day goes by without some new material for an article dropping into our Hotmail Inbox, and it has been our pleasure to convert your e-mails and file attachments into blog posts.

Here’s to the next twelve months! Cheers, everyone!

April Newsletter – PC Ian Cooper

Update from your local officer  –  April 2009

We’ve had a quieter time over the past few weeks.   At around 0520 hrs on the 3rd March 2009, at Parwich, a local resident was disturbed by clattering and banging outside.  He saw a vehicle drive away from the area, which was described as a small reddish van.  The van left as the house lights were switched on.  Details were passed to us, and it has resulted in some good intelligence with liaison with other Police Forces.  No offences were committed around the area that night but it was an excellent call to us.  At Kniveton, during the 5th March 2009, a property at Kniveton was visited by two suspicious men claiming to be there to check on the Burglar alarm.  The occupier was not present and the person who dealt with them refused them entry.  If you are ever in doubt with unexpected callers always make them stand on the doorstep, until you have checked out their identification with their company, or with us.
