Changes to opening of Ashbourne Police Station
Posted in Police on Monday June 11, 2012| Leave a Comment »
Derbyshire Constabulary has announced changes to services at 17 police enquiry offices across the county that will take effect from Monday, June 18.
In January, the force proposed changes to the front counter service at stations across Derbyshire to best meet demand including closures at under-used locations and altered opening hours at others.
Following reductions in police budgets announced in October 2010 the force was left with a budget deficit of £13m by the end of 2012/13 and a predicted total of £24m by 2014/15.
The review found that several of the smaller offices received a limited number of visitors each week. The force decided to alter the opening hours of some enquiry offices, while nine of the 25 are being closed to the public. The changes are expected to result in savings of nearly half a million pounds year on year.
Police officers will still be present at the stations, but residents wishing to contact the force while the enquiry office is closed are advised to call 101 or 999 in an emergency. By calling 101, residents can access many services offered by the constabulary, including making a scheduled appointment with an officer.
Ashbourne enquiry office will be open from 10am to 2pm Monday to Friday.

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club
For the first time this season we managed to win both our matches in the leagues. Having said that it must have been because we had better webbed feet than the opposition. Both games were played in the most appalling wet conditions.
Matlock Tuesday League.
Home – 5 June – Bradwell B.
Bradwell are/were slightly higher than us in the league. However we did win three out of the four games, only narrowly losing the fourth. Having played in gloriously warm sunshine the previous Tuesday it was a real battle against the elements as well as the opposition. The final score was 80 to Parwich and 62 to Bradwell. The result may have taken us a place higher in the league.
Next match – Away – Matlock Bath – 6.30pm 12 June.
Thursday League.
Home – Bakewell – 7 June.
We again had problems in the doubles games this week. We only just won one game; however, the scores were close in the other two so we were only 6 points behind. The weather from the start had been atrocious and got worse as the afternoon wore on. Trying to bowl was a bit of a lottery to say the least. In the end we won 4 out of the 6 singles giving us an overall win of 128 to 119.
Next match – Away – Baslow – 14 June – 1.45pm.
This Sunday we play another Club competition. Start time is 2.00pm Parsons Croft. Come along and have a look, and a cup of tea.

Parwich Village Photograph

We had an excellent turnout for the Parwich Village Photograph taken at the Memorial Hall last Tuesday. The picture was taken slightly early to take advantage of a lucky lull in the rain.
Many thanks to all for putting up with the ‘arrangement’ of the group and also to John F-S for taking the picture.
You can click here to download a high resolution copy of this photograph. Click on the little picture that appears, then select ‘File’ and ‘Download’. The picture may take a short while to transfer to your computer.
You can also order a colour A4 print of the picture using this form. Photographs cost £1.50 each. The form must be received, together with a cheque, by Saturday 16th June 2012 so the prints can be ordered.
Hope you can spot yourselves clearly!

Here are a few more pictures from up on top of Parwich Hill when the beacon was lit in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Many thanks to the organisers. The beacon was impressive and the fireworks were spectacular. It was a highly enjoyable event.
Bins – a day later this week!!!!!!!!!!!!

So this week it is Friday 8th for the Green Bin and Saturday 9th for the Black Bin. The collection may be anytime between 7am-4pm, because of the double Bank Holiday, so don’t despair if it hasn’t been collected by lunchtime.
Just remember whenever there is a Bank Holiday the bins are collected a day later.

The Parwich Poisoner
Posted in 2012, History, Posts of Note on Wednesday June 6, 2012| 11 Comments »
We have been contacted by Scott Lomax, who is the author of a recently published local history book: Deadly Derbyshire: Tales of Murder & Manslaughter c. 1700-1900.
It features more than 50 cases of murder and manslaughter to have taken place in Derbyshire during the 18th and 19th centuries.
The book includes a case from Parwich. In 1807 William Webster committed murder by poisoning. I have obtained a reasonably large amount of information about the case and presented it in the book.
Other cases from across the entire county are also featured, including cases never before written about. I have uncovered many cases which had been lost in the archives.
The book is available from all good bookshops and there are also copies in some of the county’s libraries.
More details can be found on Scott’s website, and the book can also be purchased from Amazon.
Taxi?

I need to get a lift to Calver Bridge on Saturday, and be picked up, and before I booked a taxi, I thought it might be worth seeing if anyone from Parwich would be interested in being a “taxi service”?
It is just under 20 miles and I would pay for fuel & time.
If interested, give me a call!

Parwich’s own Flotilla

Well done to all the children who made boats; there was a super variety, made from paper, wood and junk material. Thank you especially to Revd Andy Larkin for bravely standing in the sheep wash launching, managing and retrieving the flotilla and also to Thayer L for helping to launch some of the vessels.

More on the Beacon

The Beacon on the hill was a thrill; the beauty of the view over the hills and the sight of the other beacons and firework displays across the darkening landscape, and the raging bonfire reflecting on the faces of villagers was something to remember. Here are a couple of photos I took.

Setting up for Afternoon Tea

There were lots of volunteers this morning to help with sandwiches and when they had finished they carried on and set up the Memorial Hall, so help is no longer needed at 2pm. If anyone can help clear up at the end, that would be appreciated.
Well done to the helpers and the Hall looks beautifully festive.

Boat fun this afternoon
Posted in Church, Crafts on Tuesday June 5, 2012| Leave a Comment »
Don’t forget to bring along your home-made boat this afternoon to the Tea Party. Revd Andy Larkin has kindly said that he will wade into the Sheep Wash opposite the pub and rescue any boats that send out distress calls.
If you haven’t made a boat yet you still have time, either grab a plastic carton or make a paper boat (click for instructions).

Beacon & Fireworks
Posted in 2012, Events, Posts of Note on Monday June 4, 2012| 8 Comments »
Parwich was part of the network of beacons, one of more than 4000 being lit across the UK and Commonweath. The beacon, on Parwich Hill, could easily be seen in the village and this was followed by fireworks and rockets. Thank you to everyone who helped to build the beacon and to Richard T & Denis L for organising the wonderful fireworks.
All pictures can be enlarged. Thank you to Chris H for the photos above and to JF-S for the following ones taken from the cricket pitch.
