Stepping Stones Pre-School, Parwich is celebrating after achieving an overall ‘Good’ rating after their recent Ofsted Inspection.

Stepping Stones runs from the new Memorial Hall in the village Monday to Friday 9am until 12 noon during term time.
The Pre – School was awarded a ‘Good’ in all areas of the inspection which included “The Quality of the Provision in the Early Years Foundation Stage”. In the report it highlights “A stimulating and challenging environment is created through a range of activities and experiences that cater for the vast majority of the early years learning goals”. It was also commented on that the children help during snack time “Their independence skills are well promoted as they help fetch the snack trolley and set the table”.

The Pre-School also make good use of the outdoor space at the Hall “Here children enjoy energetic play running around, kicking balls or riding bikes”.  It was also quoted in the report “Children show great excitement when discovering a ladybird outside.  Staff help them understand how to handle the creature carefully and use a magnifying glass to look at the colour and spots in closer detail”.

This is fantastic news for the Village and the Pre-School.  We are currently offering a free taster session on Wednesday mornings.  If anyone requires any further information on Stepping Stones please contact Helen Downing 01335 346317.

Based on the book War Horse, this exciting film is set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War. It begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets – British cavalry, German soldiers, and a French farmer and his granddaughter – before the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man’s Land. Directed by Steven Spielberg

Tree Surgeon Needed

Can anybody please recommend to us a good tree surgeon?

We have two innocuous looking damson trees by our back door, which have kept us, and lots of other folk in the village, supplied over the years with a never-ending crop of quite lovely damsons every autumn. Unfortunately, some cracks have appeared in that corner of the house and our insurance company is convinced that it is the damsons’ fault and are insisting that we must have them cut down.

It is very upsetting, but, sadly, there is no arguing. So, we need a tree surgeon that someone can genuinely recommend, please? Thank you, Marion

This week’s bowls report

We nearly managed to win both matches this week, missing out on one by a point. We did have some good individual games however.

Matlock Tuesday League.
Away – 29 May – Chatsworth.

This really is a nice place to play bowls, win or lose. The evening was gloriously warm and sunny. The match did not start well for us however, losing the first doubles game 21-8. The other three doubles came to our rescue and we finished 71 to Parwich 49 to Chatsworth. Four wins in a row now in this league. Having been down at the bottom of the League we are slowly making our up. Long may it continue.

Next match – Home – Bradwell B – 6.30pm 5 June.

Thursday League.
Away – Matlock Park – 31 May.

We do appear to be having problems trying to win the three doubles games you have to play in this league. Unfortunately we did not win one. The score after these games was 63 to 38. The cavalry in the form of the singles again came to our rescue winning 81 to 57. The final match score was therefore 120 to Matlock and 119 to Parwich. Not a bad result really considering we lost.

Next match – Home – Bakewell – 7 June – 1.45pm.

What a cracking time the Sheffield Caravan Group had last weekend. I think nearly all the members had a go. It was so nice to see the Green full of people who were enjoying themselves so much. A pity the people who live in the village do not seem to want to join in.

Derbyshire County Council have asked us to publicise this event on Saturday 16th June.  Those donating items can enter a prize draw:

DONATE YOUR LARGE ELECTRICALS TO A GOOD CAUSE

Fed up with your fridge? Weary of your washing machine? Are you thinking of making a change?

If you are planning to replace any large, working household appliances then why not donate them to a good cause.

Instead of sending good quality items to be recycled, give them to your local furniture reuse project who will give them a new lease of life.

Derbyshire County Council is teaming up with Ashbourne’s Encore Reuse Furniture Project to hold a household electricals collection event on Saturday June 16 from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

They are encouraging people to bring along their old but working white goods like washing machines, fridges, freezers and microwaves.

They also would welcome any smaller, reusable electrical items such as hairdryers, CD players and laptops. (more…)
