Mike Goulden

As many of our readers will already know, Mike Goulden passed away very unexpectedly this week.  He went into hospital on Tuesday and died in the early hours of Thursday morning.

He was very well known to everyone in the village for the hard work that he put into keeping the shop going for a number of years and his involvement in the community in general. Most recently he was very active with Dales Housing and was a Committee Member for the Local History Society.

It seemed appropriate for us to put this note on the Blog today, as Mike has been a staunch supporter of Parwich.org and a regular contributor with photographs (including the one above) and comments; every Sunday as ‘our Weatherman on the hill‘ he supplied us with the Weekly Weather stats.

Our sympathy goes out to his brother, David and to his family and all the friends that he leaves behind. We will supply further information when we are able.

Parwich Bowling Well

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club

Two wins this week and one against a team who are second in the division. Still no let up in having to play in fur lined wellies most of the time though.

Matlock Tuesday League.

Home – 10 July – Chatsworth.

Chatsworth are nearly top of the league and soundly beat us on their green earlier in the season. However, we were able to take our revenge on our green. We won three out of the four games. Although we have managed to win a few games now we have not been scoring heavily and in the league its points that win prizes. Anyway a win is a win and we did it by 73 points to 58. We were exactly half way in the division and I don’t think we will move up from there.

Next match – Away – Bradwell -17 July 6.30pm.

Thursday League.

Home – Matlock Bath – 12 July.

Matlock were one place below us in the league before this match and the result will keep us there. We won two out of the three doubles but were still behind 45 to 48. Again our singles players did really well winning four out of the six games giving us an overall win 119 to 111. I think this win will keep us in our middle place in the league. To cap it all the sun shone as well!

Next match – Away – Whitworth Park – 19 July – 1.45pm.

We have a friendly match down at Parsons Croft this Sunday, we are entertaining Ashbourne Park. Come along and have a cup of tea with us all. 2.00pm Sunday.

The celebrations start on Sunday July 29th , at Castleton visitor centre and throughout the week there will be lots of family fun activities and guided walks. Although the events are spread over the Park, some of the events are quite local to Parwich, so scroll through this PDF and look for the events in bold.

Sunshine Boost for Bowls

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club

One win one loss this week and we actually played one match in sunshine! Glad I didn’t buy a ticket for Silverstone though.

Matlock Tuesday League.

Away – 3 July – Matlock Park.

Whist we are mid table in the league Matlock are third from top. We gave a good account of ourselves however. We won two games and Matlock won two. Their wins, however, were by bigger margins than ours. The final score was Matlock 70 Parwich 64. Hopefully we won’t drop too much in the league.

Next match – Home – Chatsworth A -10 July 6.30pm.

Thursday League.

Away – Matlock Park – 5 July.

A week or so ago we were playing Wirksworth every match now it’s Matlock Park. Having lost on Tuesday it did not augur well. No need for doubt. We won the doubles games two one and the singles games 4 to 2. The final tally was Parwich 131 to 103. A great result. We were again half way in the league. Let us hope that these last two good wins will move us up a bit.

Next match – Home – Matlock Bath – 12 July – 1.45pm.

No Sunday match again this week, because of the weather we cancelled it. It was also a shame we did not manage to have some fun on Friday night during wakes week. Better luck next year.

Debbie W, who works for the British Red Cross locally, writes:

Following the collection we had in Parwich for Red Cross Week, I just wanted to pass on a huge thank you from our Community Fundraiser, Alex Gadsby. This is what Alex had to say:

“The amounts raised in Red Cross Week via the shops have just come out. Donations for the Matlock store helped to raise a massive £270! This is amazing and I’m 100% certain it wouldn’t have been nearly as much without your support.”

Thanks very much for everyone who contributed to this worthwhile cause; I’m hoping to make it an annual event!

If anyone in the village wants to do any other type of fund raising event for the British Red Cross, I know Alex would love to hear from you.

If you get the chance to shop there, please support your group by putting the green token in our slot!

Additional funds are always welcome to purchase new kit, replace items that go out of date, or pay for training expenses such as hire of the Hall.

Wakes Thursday

6.30pm – Children’s Film Show in the Memorial Hall.

On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary and Mary from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman to raze the Muppet Theatre and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theatre, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate.

Anyone selling a wheelchair?

You never know what is hanging around in people’s cupboards…

We are just wondering if anyone has a used wheelchair they would like to sell?

Allie is headed off to Uni this year, and there are lots of field/art trips – if we provide the wheelchair, they’ll provide the pushing power!

We need one that will fold up (I think most do) for storage purposes.

If you can help, ring 390568: Debbie or Allie Webster. Thanks!
