Hello possums.
After the phenomenal success of Tom Chambers, we have another rising star in our midst. A mover and shaker, who makes Michael Jackson look like Pinocchio, our very own David S. A
‘Britain’s Got Talent’ scout spotted David strutting his stuff to ‘Mr’s Miggin’s Pie Shop’ at the Legion on Saturday night. Apparently David’s vertical leaps were worthy of the African ‘Whatootsie’ (Watusi) tribe, who execute amazing leaps in their fertility dances in an effort to impress prospective brides. In his usual modest manner David was unfazed by the prospect of stardom, but did manage to sign a few autographs before his wife, Sharon, carted him off home in a wheelbarrow.

Our Weatherman in the Village says:
Got the forecast bang on last week – with the weather breaking on Wednesday as forecast. Tuesday was a glorious day with beautiful spring sunshine and the temperature in Parwich hit a balmy 13.4C, but it was still a cold night with hard frosts Monday and Tuesday.
Winter is now firmly re-established for a few days with no immediate let up to the present conditions. Cold temperatures, snow showers and a bitter wind look like punctuating the week to come.

We have a biomass boiler which is fuelled by wood pellets, we are using Forever Fuels but the delivery rate will be significantly reduced if they are able to deliver to more than one property. Would anyone in the same position like to share deliveries with us? If so please contact Caroline on 07767 426 107 or 378.

The poll in our previous post is so far indicating a majority support some form of part night lighting in Parwich. This further post contains individual polls for each street light in the Village.
You can have your say on which street lights are turned off for part of the night and which remain on by contacting:
or here at
The County Council’s rationale in deciding their proposals can be seen on their website, but they will not understand as well as us how we might be effected, so please fill in at least the polls for the lights outside your house.
There should be a separate poll below for each Parwich street light (based on plan circulated by Derbyshire County Council): (more…)

The Derbyshire Alert community messaging service gives you the opportunity to contribute to the setting of priorities in your neighbourhood.
As you may be aware, each of our Safer Neighbourhood policing teams holds a meeting every three months to set priorities, offering the public the opportunity to select what their local police officers and other agencies target.
The aim of our e-forum is to make it easier for you to have a say on priorities.
Simply email alert@neighbourhoodalert.co.uk and tell us what you would like your team to target. (more…)

Although the Council have already consulted on the general issue, we felt our readers might like to have a say on whether ‘part night lighing’ in general is a good idea:
Parwich households should have received a letter today telling them that Derbyshire County Council is now consulting on turning some Parwich street lights off for part of the night. (Click here for the consultation timetables for Derbyshire communities.) (more…)

Hello Possums,
Well that’s February done and dusted. The Catholic church was rocked by the recent announcement that his holiness Pope Benedict XVI is to take early retirement. It is widely rumoured however that Tony Blair may be throwing his mitre in the ring for the top job thus adding the Vatican to his growing property portfolio.
The lucrative world of after dinner speaking is abuzz with the prospect of Lord Prescott joining the circuit. He has optimistically hired an agent to procure some mouth watering engagements for him in the near future. ‘Prezza’ rose steadily through the ranks, defying working class prejudices, from ship’s steward to become Tony Blair’s right hand man, eventually joining the House of Lords, an institution he had long championed. His syntax and eloquent jousting at the dispatch box is legendary among the Labour Party. A veritable feast of anecdotal entertainment awaits, a postprandial extravaganza not to be missed. (more…)

Our Weatherman in the Village says:
High pressure continues to dominate giving us much needed dry and calm conditions with only 0.05 inches of rain last Monday.
The coming days look like continuing the theme, but a break in that looks likely from mid-week with a return to wet and windy on the cards.

Derbyshire Dales District Council is managing a scheme to make homes cheaper to heat.
Old and uneconomical boilers could be replaced for free as the District Council encourages local residents to improve energy efficiency. But the deadline for applications is the end of March.
Around £2.5m funding is being shared between 14 district and borough councils across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire after the District Council was successful in a national competition run by the Department of Energy and Climate Change. In order to make homes warmer and more energy efficient, householders can apply to the scheme for the replacement of old and inefficient boilers, replacement boilers where it is not economical to repair, boiler repairs and installation of new heating systems.
To qualify for the free work, Dales residents must be owner-occupiers with savings of less than £16,000, and be in receipt of certain benefits such as Pension Credit, Income Support, Child Tax Credit or housing/council tax benefits.Anyone not receiving benefit but having a total household income of £18,000 or less, could also be eligible for support from the scheme.
The scheme is being handled by the established Warmstreets team, who have been working with Derbyshire Dales District Council over the past two years to provide loft and cavity insulation.
To enquire, call the Warmstreets team on 0800 043 9569.
