Thank you Helen for forwarding this update. There is usually a good sized Parwich contingent going to the Dovedale Dash, so many will be sad to hear the event is cancelled this year:

On Tuesday, 29 October 2013, 18:16, secretary@dovedaledash.co.uk wrote:

We regret that we have had to cancel the Dash this year. The Pastures where we normally park 400-500 cars is waterlogged and not getting any better. The forecast for the weekend is for further rain and strong winds. Our regrets for the cancellation. We put off making a decision until the last moment in the hope of an improvement in the weather.

The next Dash is November 2nd 2014.

We have a king size  bed (frame only, no mattress) going spare from next week. It is pine and  could do with either painting or revarnishing in a few places.
Free to anyone who  wants to collect.  If you need the bed but are unable to collect it, give  me a call and I’m sure we can work something out.

Thank you from the Legion

Parwich Legion would like to say thank you to everyone who attended, supported and contributed to yesterday’s harvest festival. Thank you also to Andy Larkin for taking the service and to Martin Compton for providing the music.

There was plently of produce to auction and people bid very generously. As a result we managed to raise £240 for the Independent Welfare Fund, which helps people in the village.

Thank you all once more…..!

Paul B’s Weekly Weedkiller #52

Hello Possums,

flyNuneaton: A drinker was horrified, when he claimed to have discovered around fifty dead flies at the bottom of his bottle of Foster’s lager, purchased from his local Azda store. A spokesperson for the store told us, as a precautionary measure, the supplier will only be using blue bottles in future production.

beansCookhill, Redditch: Opportunist thieves have stolen 6,400 tins of baked beans from a Skania lorry parked up overnight whilst the driver slept. Police suspect there toastmay be a connection to an earlier incident where a thousand thick sliced loaves were taken from a Kemp’s bakery delivery van.

Lost Dog

We have just had a chap pop round as he lost his dog on the Tissington trail today (Sunday at around 11am). The description that he gave us of the dog is- jack Russell bitch, answering to the name of Meg.  She is white with a patch (I think he said a brown one over her left eye).  She has no collar (nor microchip).  The man said she is friendly, but a little nervous of men.

If anyone has seen her please contact parwich.org for the owner’s contact details

Our weatherman says:

With 2.74 inches of rain through the week, it has been very soggy! The impending deep low coming in from the south west looks at the moment to be tracking a bit further south than previously predicted, which hopefully means we might be spared the worst of the wind tonight and tomorrow morning (although it does look like we’ll get very wet again). Deep Atlantic depressions are certainly not unusual at this time of year, but this one looks a little more extreme. The south of the country will be very stormy tonight. The rest of the week looks like being wet, windy and still mild.

Matlock to Chesterfield Road Closed

Derbyshire County Council have notified us of the following:

Road closure due to flood

22 October 2013

The main Chesterfield to Matlock A632 road remains closed due to flooding which has caused a wall to collapse.

The road has been closed between Acorn Ridge at Walton, Chesterfield, and Span Carr Crossroads since yesterday (21 October) lunchtime.

Continued rainfall and water running from the hills is hampering attempts to clear the debris and establish and fix the cause of the problem, which is thought to be a blocked culvert.

We have knocked down part of a retaining wall on the opposite side of the road to relieve some of the flood water. Diversions remain in place and motorists are being advised to avoid the area if possible.

Alternative routes are available via Wingerworth using Langer Lane, Birkin Lane and Span Carr Crossroads or by using the main A619 route through Baslow and Bakewell.

Hello Possums

bellOYEZ! OYEZ! Derby’s town criers have been criticized over their exorbitant call out charges.

imageThere now follows a portly political broadcast on behalf of the N.F.H. (No Fracking Here) Party:

Hello good folk of Partridge,
Lord Scottpress here,

I am synthetic to your constellations regaling the distraction of shale gas from areas of upstanding national beatification. As you know if Labour were still in power there would be none of this fracking nonsense as we were more than culpable of producing our own natural gas. Anyway I digest so downwards and side ways. You may join in the fracking debate in the House of Lords but please avoid these times:
