The Much Valued Legion Sign

The Parwich Royal British Legion have had a replica sign made so that they can protect Paul Burlinson’s original inside. Click here to see their original Facebook post on this.

imageYou may have noticed that our Legion sign painted by Paul Burlinson has been missing since February, this was to protect the original from the elements whilst we made a replica to replace it to ensure we could protect such an amazing legacy which Paul left us. The original is now up in pride of place inside the legion, whilst the replica made by Cameron Jewitt and Joe Beech of Acres Signs and Graphics, is now placed outside to greet all our patrons.

Thanks to everyone who has helped us with this project and we hope you enjoy the sign as much as we do and also special thanks and remembrance for Paul who was a key member of the team here at Parwich Legion someone we all miss greatly. Here are some sign preparation photos.

It is particularly appropriate to be able to post this on the eve of the centenary commemorations of the Battlle of the Somme.

This morning I have swept up great piles of glass in the road around the Green, and understand from a lady walking her children to school that there is more up Church Walk. it may be wise to advise Mums to brief kids on bikes and generally fooling around, to be careful.

It is very fine crushed glass which is probably from the rubbish collection yesterday.

I have notified the sanitation dept at Derbyshire Dales and they are contacting the contractor to check the Lorry for signs of leakage.

I hope our own A52s don’t mind that we have brazenly lifted the following from their Facebook page:

The band is playing on home territory this Saturday (2nd July). Parwich Wakes is starting and a week of fun is about to start!

We will be playing on The Green starting around 9pm. For one night only we will be joined by guest drummer Alex Martin. Here’s a moody promo pic so you can see just what a cool bunch we are.

Hope to see you there!

National Sports Week

It seems that the Pupils of Parwich Primary School had a great time last week as part of National Sports Week. There are some excellent photos on the Ashbourne News Telegraph website. It is great they had a chance to experience so many different activities:

Thank You JFS

The Blog Team said thank you to JFS yesterday over a cream tea. JFS has been a photographic stalwart, recording nearly every Parwich event for our website. It has been a mammoth task which he has approached not only with quiet fortitude but also displaying considerable artistic skill . We hope that he will continue to bring his camera with him every time he comes to Parwich.

Thank you so much for the silver swallow, a beautiful piece of delicate work. It was suggested that an ear lobe would be the place to wear it. However it will be placed on my sun hat. I will treasure it. JFS

B5056 Corner Verge

A belated thank-you to the person, whether volunteer or contractor, who cut the grass on the corners of the junction with the B5056. An accident was waiting to happen there. I’d half-heartedly thought about doing it myself, but I’m very pleased you did it for us!

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB

Can you believe the bowls season is already half way through and we don’t seem to have had too much summer yet, or is it me? Perhaps the summer will surprise us and come with a flourish soon. As for the bowls we appear to be rocketing along in one league and struggling in the other.

Matlock Tuesday League.
Away -21 June – 6.30pm – Ashwwod Park.

As mentioned last week Ashwood are a good second in the league and they certainly played like it. There was also a loss for our dynamic duo Dennis and Clara E who lost for the first time in ages. You can tell how good Ashwood are because even Rick and Edith lost albeit by the small margin of 21 – 19. We could only muster one win this week with Dawn A and Dot H convincingly winning 21 – 17. Unfortunately these were the only two bright aspects of this week’s attempts by you bowls club. The final result was Ashwood 80, Parwich 57.

Although we are not playing our best in this league we are still none the less only just below half way in the division. If we could string a few good results together we may climb a few places. We play Bakewell away next week, not the best place to go to try and start a bit of a results run.

  • Next match – Away – Bakewell – 28 June – 6.30pm.

Matlock Thursday League
Away – Baslow – 23 June – 1.45pm.

We really will have to take care in this League as we are flying along. As of last week we had climbed up into second place in the division. I think money may well have to change hands in order for us to drop a few places and avoid promotion. Having said that we did not perform well in the doubles this week and only managed one win, but what a win it was for Audrey B and Dot H, 21 -3. After the doubles we trailed 40 points to 45.

In the singles we came through with flying colours winning 5 out of the 6 games, with Dawn A, Edith, and John H all scoring handsomely. Parwich 79, Baslow 60. The overall result therefore Baslow 105, Parwich 119. We will have to start losing!

  • Next match – Home – Whitworth Park. – 30 June – 1.45pm.

Enjoy open gardens and well done to those of you who have strived to get them looking great.

John B.

Bin Collection Problems

Thank you to Andrew M who has sent the following information from DDDC:

Dear Parish & Town Councils

I am writing to advise you that we are currently experiencing some difficulties with waste & recycling collections.  Currently due to unforeseen circumstances Serco are experiencing a shortage of resources; therefore some residents maybe experiencing delays with their scheduled collections.  We apologise for any inconvenience that this may be causing and would like to reassure you that we are working with the contractor to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.  There will be collection staff out this Saturday (25th June) clearing some of the missed collections.  The situation will be reviewed on Monday and every effort will be made to clear any outstanding backlog.  There is no change to scheduled collections, residents should still present their containers on collection day but Serco are not always managing to finish the rounds which is impacting on the following days collections.

If a collection is missed residents should report it at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/waste or contact the waste helpline 01629 761122 and leave their container (s) at the edge of their property until it has been collected.

Regular updates will be given on the website.

Bins will be emptied tomorrow

Thank you Louise B for posting the following on our Facebook page:

To everyone in Parwich, I have just spoken to DDDC regarding why our bins haven’t been emptied, they have informed me that the contractors are running a day late so now our bins will be emptied tomorrow. DDDC have said to keep our bins out as they may be collected early in the morning.

So make sure you grey general waste bins and food waste caddies are out for early in the morning (Thursday 23rd June).

Parwich Parish Council

At last week’s meeting of Parwich Parish Council it was resolved that the Council’s Communications Policy should be amended to include the following two clauses:

Website

The Parish Council will follow recommended best practice in maintaining its own website which meets statutory requirements, integrates access to other local authority content and provides absolute clarity that the Council takes responsibility for its content.

Parwich Blog

The Parish Council values the Parwich Blog as an effective means of communicating with residents. Regular posts to the Blog will be used to provide effective links to content on the Parish Council Website but are not intended to duplicate it.

We hope that this clarification is helpful to residents and look forward to working with the Blog team to make both sites as useful as possible.
