The weeks just role by and it’s Wednesday again, with the Ashbourne News Telegraph – 20th Aug 2008- dropping on my doormat again. Stories this week include:
- p.1 M&S bid to open a food store on the Waterside retail estate, which is presumably mixed news for Ashbourne. (p.7 also the Stunner is running a pole to see what its readers think, see their website.)
- p.2 Members of the public are invited by the Office of Fair Trading to have their say on the takeover of the Hartington Cheese Factory. To contact the OFT either email the case officer Marie Didierlaurent on marie.didierlaurant@oft.gsi.gov.uk or phone her on 0207 211 8427.
- p.3 QEGS students achieve the best ever A-level results with a 97.7 pass rate, and an average score that places the School 12th in the Country. Well done all, but especially our local youngsters!
- p.8 ‘Village closer to new hall dreams’ reports our success at last week’s planning meeting and the Peak Park Authority’s comendations of the proposed new Memorial Hall.
- p.9 Refuse collections and recycling collections will be a day late next week because of the bank holiday.
- p.10 Article on Abel Shipley and the Horticulture Society hanging basket competition revived in his memory. (Click here to read our post.)
- p.11 As always the Stunner is not the Stunner without mention of our Debbie, pictured this week with other representatives of the Volunteer Centre and our MP, Patrick McLoughlin.
- Click here for final results of the Summer Football League
Thank you to the paper for the two plugs for PARWICH.ORG and as aways let us know what we have missed.

The Ashbourne Telegraph seems later this week in updating their website, it must be because their reporter Gareth Butterfield is on leave. Hope you are having a good break Gareth, though if you are reading this perhaps it is not so good.
(Added later: the Paper’s website is now updated (6pm) and we have added the links into the post above)
The Stunner’s online poll is currently showing 81% support for the proposed new M&S store.
There’s also an interesting article on the web site about new affordable housing in Hulland Ward.
Brilliant exam results there from QEGS – 12th in the country, wow! 🙂
