Derbyshire Constabulary seized 300 cannabis plants at a house in Biggin on Tuesday. They are still investigating, and their press release reports a 24 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis and is due to appear in Chesterfield Magistrates Court.
Detective Inspector Jed Lowe said:
“The warrant was executed after we received information from the local community that drugs may be in the property. Information such as this is invaluable and we would urge anyone with information about drugs in their neighbourhood to contact police.”

Hemp (cannabis sativa) was widely used to produce rope, coarse cloth and even paper. There are records of it having been grown locally in the Tudor & Stuart periods.
The deeds of Crown Cottage in Parwich mention that there was a hemp yard there in the 15 or 1600s. Let us hope Jonathan is not tempted to emulate our neighbour in Biggin and revive the tradition.
…..I’d been wondering what that smell was!
No doubt this is why the Oddfellows met at the Crown Inn – see this page on the Parwich church website … which makes one also wonder about the procession …
