NHS PLANS FOR ASHBOURNE HEALTH DEVELOPMENT GO ON SHOW
Local people will be able to find out more about NHS plans to construct a state-of-the-art health facility in Ashbourne, which will incorporate a £20mn community hospital, health centre, the MacLeod GP practice and a pharmacy – and is set to benefit over 35,000 people when it is due to open in 2011.
The event, which will take place at Ashbourne Leisure Centre on Saturday 11 October between 1-4pm, will give people an opportunity to find out more about the new facility and to ask any questions they have about the project to GP staff and key members of the project planning team (including managers of Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust (PCT), who have commissioned the services, and Southern Derbyshire Local Improvement Finance Trust Company (LIFT), a public private partnership, who are responsible for the design, planning, development and maintenance of the new building for the PCT).
The event is open to anyone interested in coming along. People will specifically be able to:
• Find out what the outside of the building will look like
• Learn about the health services that will be provided in the building
• Engage with a soon-to-be-established Community Involvement Network, which will look at health issues in Ashbourne by:
o Helping decide how some of the space in the building should be used
o Learning about how to get involved in the project development, both now and for the future
• Make contact with voluntary sector partners
• Consult on what NHS dental services you would like to have in Ashbourne – which the PCT is investing an extra £450K in and is planning to increase by mid-2009.
Tracy Allen, director of Derbyshire Community Health Services at Derbyshire County PCT said:
“We’re all very excited about this project, and we hope that local people feel the same way, as we think it’ll be of enormous benefit to the community for many years to come. We like to encourage everyone who has a view on the new development – good, bad or indifferent – to come along to the event on the 11 October and have their say because we know how much people’s health means to them and it’s important that the new services meet their needs.”
The final go-ahead for the Ashbourne health scheme was given in August this year. The scheme will see the development of a 7,000 square metre, state-of-the-art facility that will replace the Ashbourne Health Centre on Compton Street and St Oswald’s Community Hospital.
