It’s Wednesday again and the latest issue of the Ashbourne News Telegraph is out. Here are the items that relate to our immediate area:
- p.3 ‘Traffic lights under attack’: a short piece on the temporary lights on the B5056 and a comment from Ashbourne Police Officer Rachael Baggaley, saying damage has been reported over the last two or three weeks and urging people with information to call 0345 123333. - p29 A double page spread on Tom and Strictly Come Dancing including a photo of his and Camilla’s visit to the Sycamore last week. Tom did make a second visit to the pub on Wednesday after the cameras had gone, although he wants the publicity, it is also still his local in Derbyshire. - p.55 Hartington and District League placings, with Darts A – Legion (H) 4th and Legion (P) 4th; Darts B – Sycamore 3rd; Dominoes A – Legion (P) 3rd and Legion (H) 4th; and Dominoes B – Sycamore 6th.

- p.1 Queues in Shaw Croft Post Office, the only one left for some distance, have dramatically increased since the other closures. (Click here for article.)
- p.6 Derbyshire Dales car parks are free after 2pm up to Christmas, to encourage shoppers.
- p.13 Ashbourne Town Council have ordered snow machines for the late night shopping on Friday. (Click here to see article.)
- p14 Planning Committee decision on M&S outlet in Ashbourne was made last night. Although too late for this week’s paper, their website reports planning permission was refused for the proposed food outlet.
- p.15 Article on the Peak Park pledge to lead the fight against climate change in Derbyshire.
- p23 Derbyshire Constabulary are the first force in the country to receive a Customer Service Excellence Standard.
- p25 Four Derbyshire Councils, including Derbyshire Dale, have joined forces make it easier for people to find rentable housing. See www.Home-options.org. (Though this will not help in villages where there is little or no rentable housing stock.)
