This week’s Stunner contains some great publicity – see page 5 – in the form of a big article on the Memorial Hall fund-raising. As I am new to the area, I may well have missed other mentions of local people in the Stunner so please feel free to add comments if you see that I’ve missed any local news.
Don’t forget you can buy the paper in The Sycamore or click here for the e-edition
Stepping up efforts for Memorial Hall – p.5
A fantastic article about the fund-raising being carried out for the Memorial Hall together with a picture of Jo-Anne Jewett handing over a cheque to Mike Gerard-Pearse. The article sets out the amounts already received and suggests that readers of The Stunner visit Parwich.org for information and contacts if they have any fund-raising ideas. Let’s hope for a big response to this article.
Near naked stunt act planned for summer festival – p.1
This article has nothing to do with Parwich but it’s the front page of the Stunner and too good a headline to miss out on. Apparently two men will perform tricks and stunts at the Ashbourne Festival this year wearing only thongs! One for the ladies?
Ashbourne has lost its world record for the most people eating bananas at the same time – p.2
Sorry – again no connection with Parwich but the headline made me laugh out loud. At this rate I will get myself sacked from the blog team so I will now endeavour to find more relevant local news.
Crippled by road works – p.3
This is of interest to anyone who drives from Parwich into Ashbourne as delays of up to 45 minutes have been experienced by motorists along the A515. Apparently the roadworks in Ashbourne are due to be finished on or before April Fool’s Day… The Stunner’s website has a survey asking how long people have been held up in these roadworks and the answers are pretty depressing.
Safer neighbourhood meeting – p.3
There is a meeting in Kniveton Vilage Hall at 7.30pm on Thursday 12th March for our area to help set priorities for our local neighbourhood. Safer Neighberhood teams, partner agencies and community representatives will be attending and all are welcome.
Fire threatened cottage – p.3
A chimney had to be dismantled after fire broke out at a cottage in Brackendale Lane, Bradbourne at around 5pm on Sunday.
Aztecs U15s 4 – Stanton Ilkeston 2 p.46
An article about Aztecs Under 15s which mentions “Drummond” a few times as in: “the front two were well supplied and supported by … Drummond” and “Drummond fired home from 12 yards to make it 2-1”. Is this one of Parwich’s own Drummond boys, known locally for beating their father in tennis tournaments?

what ever happened to Parwich being ( peak districts secret gem). ego’s eh!
Actually I think I like the new approach! (It made me LOL too!!)
