Ashbourne News Telegraph seem to be publishing their on-line e-newspaper earlier on Wednesdays but, if you prefer paper in your newspaper, go to Janet in the Sycamore for today’s edition.
p.1 – Is Ashbourne ready for a French Connection? Ashbourne is going to be asked whether it would like to be twinned with the French town of Soisy-sur-Seine in Northern France. Does anyone in Parwich know the town? Would Parwich then be twinned with a village five miles outside Soisy only reachable by a road liable to imminent collapse? Does the outlying village have its own band? Is it named after a local A road?
p.2 – Series of crashes sparks new wave of safety worries – a string of crashes along the A515 between Ashbourne and Alsop-en-le-Dale has led to more calls for safety improvements. One of the crashes mentioned in the article occurred between a Honda Civic and a Vauxhall van near the Bentley Brook Inn on Monday morning but luckily no-one was injured.
p.3 – Inspired by Derbyshire? Submit your artwork – Derbyshire artists are being invited to enter the Derbyshire Open Art Competition. Knowing that our village is choc-a-bloc full of artists, I thought this would be of interest. I hope I haven’t offended any of the artists whose work might be suitable for more illustrious prizes than this one – on the other hand the first prize of £2,000 is quite appealing.
p.3 – Rubbish fire at garage – a large pile of rubbish burst into flames at Sandy Brook garage on Sunday.
p.4 – Grant to fund fence style safety measures – Brassington have been awarded a grant of £250 to erect “entry portals” into the village in an attempt to slow down motorists who come speeding through. Apparently this was thought to be a better solution than 20 miles per hour signs so it might be interesting for Parwich to compare notes with their Parish Council if Parwich ever decides to look at traffic-calming measures.
p.20 – Derbyshire Dales Cyberscouts – an article on the cyberscouts’ recent day out at Chatsworth which included a painting workshop by local artist Lewis Noble. The article also has a lovely picture of a small Noble artist.
p.24 – Marching for St George – an article on two St George’s Day events, one of which took place in Parwich village – and some lovely accompanying photos of our parade.
