I would like to say how dissapointed I am – as well as many parents and the staff at Stepping Stones, that the village Hall committee have asked that displays are limited to the back wall of the village hall.
This is an area which is barely seen – behind the piano on one side of the door, and our equipment on the other side.
We have always had so many compliments from local people about the displays, which now many people will not even notice.
The side wall has always been used for displays as long as I can remember, not only Pre-School but other users of the village hall, such as Junior Church.
Could I ask what is going to replace them?
Hi, i went into the hall the other day and thought how dull it looked as pre-school had not got their display up. I think it is lovely to walk in and see the childrens work. I dont know what has been said about the displays in the hall but that is my view.
Sorry to hear you’re dissapointed, but don’t worry Liz, this has been the subject of a lot of discussion in full consultation with the Stepping Stones representative who brought this important issue up. The subject is covered in the minutes of the meeting held 20th April (which you can find in the shop, pinned to the board in the Hall, or with your user group rep)
We have together arrived at a solution which we hope will ensure that the displays get as much or even more prominence than they do now. The plan is to have stand alone moveable display panels which will add a dgree of flexibility to how the displays are presented, as well as doubling up as partition panels allowing a greater degree of flexibility to the use of the Hall.
If you want to discuss this point further, or have any further issues you want to raise, please feel free to contact me or any committee member, or your user group representative.
Obviously it’s a real challenge to make sure everyone gets what they want in the new Hall, but it is important that people like you make your points clearly to the committee, so that we can try to find the best solution to make sure all the user groups needs are met.
Thanks for your comments.
Just re-reading your point Liz, Are you are talking about the present hall, and not the new one?
Hi Amanda,
Thanks for your reply, I was talking about the present Village hall. We had a letter from Penny on Thursday saying that we had to limit the displays from now on, to the back of the Hall as people on the committee felt it made the Hall look too much like a nursey.
Thanks Liz.
Liz, I think there must be some misunderstanding here. Let me look into it, and come back to you asap. It’s not something that I’ve ever heard raised at committee.
I was made aware of this concern only this morning, but feel as chair of Pre-school I should comment.
We as the pre-school have decided to limit the the displays to the back of the current hall, it was not a memorial hall decision.
As the pre-school supervisor Penny is very proud of the children’s artwork and I know full well that many of the village people will miss their display’s on the wall, but it is the wish of the memorial hall committee that they do not want them displayed on the walls of the new hall, a decision that we at pre-school respect.
We have discussed alternative methods of display boards.
Incidentally if anyone has any concerns about pre-school I would appreciate that they discuss these issues firstly with either myself or Penny, so that issues are not misunderstood or taken out of context
I hope this helps to clears things up somewhat
Tracy
I can not see how I have taken the letter dated, 14th May 2009 out of context, it states,
“We are now limiting the area we use for displays to the back of the hall only, as there are some people on the village hall committee who feel it looks too much like a nursery.”
Penny said Tracy read this and said it was O.K. – where does it state it was a Pre-School decision?.
If this was a Pre-School decision surely I and other parents should have had a say in this – the other parents I spoke to this morning have not been asked.
Also the Pre-School is run by a committee which I am on, so who exactly did make the decision?
Firstly, may I say that I didn’t say that you had taken the letter out of context, you stated that the memorial hall committee had asked us not to display artwork on the walls of the current hall, which was not the case. I was speaking generally that sometimes when we are not aware of the full facts within a situation things can be misunderstood and taken out of context, my apologies if you felt that that was the case
Secondly I made the decision to allow the letter to go ahead with regards to the use of the back wall only. As the chair of pre-school occassionally I am required to make decisions on behalf of the committee, when needed. The decision was ultimately mine.
If there are any concerns with my role as chair, I will be happy to discuss them personally with you or anyone else who feels there is a problem.
As the mother of a child attending pre-school, I too wish to see my son’s artwork displayed on the walls, but I do understand that not everyone feels the same way, pre-school is not being personally targeted all the other user groups will also have to comply with the new guidelines.
The memorial hall committee are working with us to help provide alternative display units.
I feel now that I have said enough on this matter and will not take out a slanging match on a public blog or in front of other parents.
So, as I said before if there is anything further that you wish to discuss, please contact me directly and I will be more than happy to discuss it further
Tracy, I am not sure why you are taking my comments personally.
From what I can see, we both want the same thing – for Pre-School displays to be on the wall of the Village Hall. Instead of arguing with me don’t you think our time would be better spent working together by trying to find what the people in the village would prefer. If a majority of local people do not want Pre-School displays up, then so be it, if however people do like to see them, then hopefully the issue could be discussed again.
Hi, as a mother with a child who attends pre-school I think its very dissapointing that the childrens art work can no longer be displayed on the walls of the present pre-school, it makes the room look a lot duller now.
