Latest Update from your
Safer Neighbourhood Officer
February 2010
.
.Dear Resident
February has been cold and snowy, but I feel spring is on its way….the daffodils and snowdrops are fighting their way through.
In Ashbourne town centre the annual Royal Shrovetide Football took place; all went well, with not too many injuries or issues of anti-social behaviour. The crowds were good humoured and the Police and Shrovetide Committee all worked well together to deliver a fun two days in the town.
Back to more mundane issues now….mud on the highways and lanes of our villages! There have been several ‘calls for service’ from members of the public regarding farm vehicles leaving mud, silage and slurry during ‘muck spreading’ time, this is a rural community and to expect clear, spotless roads is not feasible, but if the drivers of the tractors could just make sure that they do not leave too much mess, I believe this would satisfy members of the public. The most calls we have received have been around the Fenny Bentley A515 stretch.
A dead badger was found on the road between Gag Lane and Rakes Lane on the 19/2, this was discovered by Police whilst on duty. If anyone does find a dead badger on the road (they can be rather large) please could you inform DDCC or Call DERBYSHIRE they are a hazard for traffic especially when it is dark.
On the 25/1 at approximately 11.00am at a farm near to Tissington village a white male, about 60 years old, dressed tidily and smoking, knocked at the farmhouse door and enquired if there was any scrap metal and batteries available. He apparently tried to infer that he had been to the property before. He was sent on his way and the Police called immediately. He was driving a flatbed truck, but unfortunately, it was too far away to pick up the vehicle registration number. This is quite common, to leave the vehicle some distance away, therefore making it difficult to note the number. Please be aware of this and do your best to check as many details as possible to relay to the Police.
On the 17/2 we received a call regarding a vehicle parked on the lay-by opposite the Bluebell Inn at Tissington. This was reported by a passing motorist from Monyash who uses the A515 regularly. Also a local person from Tissington reported the same vehicle. He noticed that it had been there for two days and thought it best to report it. After enquiries there was not an issue, but it was encouraging that two members of the public had taken time to pass this information.
Early on the morning of 19/2 there was a RTC (Road Traffic Collision) about half a mile from Tissington. There was only one vehicle involved but unfortunately it damaged a dry stone wall. The problem was black ice and the vehicle had spun out of control. Thankfully, no one was injured, but there is a wall that needs repairing!
Finally, I attended the Kniveton Parish Council meeting on Tuesday 9 February. I have to say, it was the warmest Village Hall I have ever been in! This is not a hint to all the other Parish Councils to ‘get the heaters on, Kate’s attending’, but it was so nice to enjoy the company of all who were present. They made my first meeting there such a pleasant occasion.
Could I just remind everyone that on Thursday 18 MARCH 2010 at TISSINGTON VILLAGE HALL at 7.30pm there will be the Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team Governance Meeting. In attendance will be Sgt Steve EDWARDS and myself PCSO Kate CLEVELEY. All are welcome from all the villages that are part of my area….Tissington/Parwich/Bradbourne/Thorpe/Fenny Bentley/Kniveton.
It is a chance to air your views and it is an opportunity to speak to the team.
We continue to live in an area that is low on crime and anti-social behaviour. In relation to this it continues to be one of the best areas in the country to live.

Hi
I note in the story supplied by PCSO Kate Cleveley in February’s newsletter you quote 01629 533085 as an alternative number for Call Derbyshire.
While that number does come in to the county council, the correct alternative number on which local people should ring Call Derbyshire is 01629 533190.
To help us offer the best possible service to callers, I would be grateful if you could publish that number in future. If you have any queries in connection with this message, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks Chris, I have now updated that number. It was not a number that Kate included in her orginal email, but one I mistakenly added.
Thanks Jane
Cheers Jane. Many thanks for responding so promptly.
