Dear Resident
March and April has been fairly quiet regarding incidents, but nevertheless a few more have occurred since the last newsletter, so below is a brief update.
On 14/3 it was reported that an aggressive dog was on the Tissington Trail, the caller, quiet rightly was concerned for the safety of trail users. After a bit of digging regarding previous complaints, the owner of the dog was advised and the DDDC Dog Warden was informed.
A female was arrested for possession of cannabis and dealt with via a formal cannabis warning on Dovedale car park. She was discovered by an Officer on routine mobile patrol, she had walked there from Ashbourne, this was on 20/3 at approximately 1.30am
A vehicle was stolen from Thorpe area; Staffordshire Police dealt with the incident as it was on the Staffs side of the River Dove, but passed details to Derbyshire Police for observations. This is a fine example of both Constabularies working together. The theft took place on 28/3 and was reported at 19.41hrs by the owner. Enquiries are ongoing and hopefully to a successful conclusion.
On the same day a little earlier there was a RTC (road traffic collision) in the car park of the Dog and Partridge ph. There were no injuries.
East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) contacted the Police to inform us that two young boys had fallen from the quad bike. They had been picked up by a kind local farmer who had taken them to his farm at Pikehall. One boy had a head injury and both were in shock. They were eventually taken to Chesterfield Hospital. Neither was wearing crash helmets, both boys were advised accordingly by the Paramedics treating their injuries. It is vital that all quad bike users wear the appropriate equipment, as this will protect them and hopefully prevent serious injury. The incident took place on private land. Many thanks to the farmer who helped the emergency services.
Tyres on a vehicle at Tissington village were damaged during the night 7/4 – 8/4…please contact Police if you have any information regarding this incident.
Officers on mobile patrol were made aware by an alert member of the public at Bradbourne that a male was calling at houses in the village and when invited in was speaking about historical houses. The person concerned became very nervous after inviting him into the house and asked him to leave, this he did. He was in a Red Rover car, but no other details were known. Please inform me if you have any information regarding this incident.
This happened on 13/4 at approximately 5.30pm. It is advisable not to invite people who are not known to you into your property as it could have unpleasant consequences.
On the 14/4 complaints were made regarding four vans parking and causing an obstruction at Ashes Lane Fenny Bentley. This is quite a regular issue, but we encourage residents to contact us and we will always try to find a solution, as we did with this incident. Communication is everything.
On the 15/4 at 12.00am a Renault van and a Transporter van were involved in a Road Traffic Accident (RTC) on the Fenny Bentley stretch of the A515. This incident was caused by a Mercedes van overtaking inappropriately. Thankfully, there were no injuries and fortunately in the queue of traffic there was an off duty Nottinghamshire Constabulary Officer who sprung into action and directed traffic until local Officers arrived. There were no injuries and the road was cleared eventually. Observations for the offending vehicle were put out but there was no sign of the van.
That concludes the incidents that have been reported. I am typing this in the Ashbourne Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team office at Compton, the sun is shining outside and it is time to vacate the office and resume my mobile patrol around the best ‘patch’ in Derbyshire.

Re the boys injured in the quad bike accident , I would like to add that there was a trail bike involved in the collision he had driven past them kicked up a load of dust and subsequently stopped suddenly and the quad ran into the back of him causing the back passenger of the quad (a 9yr old) to be catapulted off. The young boys face was smashed up and bloody the trail biker asked if he was ok and drove off!!! (disgusting behaviour) Clearly neither of the boys were ok and the younger of the 2 spent two days in hospital.
