SE reported that at the present time there is no Priority Profile (PP) in place. There were several new concerns regarding the theft of grit from the local DDDC grit bins. DS was aware and had a good idea who was committing the thefts, but a ‘word’ to certain members of the community may deter further issues. It was stated that the grit bins are £280 to purchase and £70 to fill with grit.
AB explained that the road surface on Buxton Hill was very dangerous and was causing slippage, and asked if anything
could be done. SE replied that there were several solutions to re-surfacing but again it would be down to funds being available.
SE informed the meeting that he was gathering information, with a view to a presenting a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ to PC 1525 Ian Cooper. He was amazed how many pieces of evidence had already been gathered, 89 at the last count from former Supervisors and colleagues. All good of course! This was received with enthusiasm and agreement from all.
SE then informed the meeting of Op Impact. He explained that the initiative was to try and combat anti-social behaviour, drug use, drink driving and violence in the town centre during December and January. There would be extra staff during the campaign at key times and posters would be displayed. Test purchasing would also take
place, regarding licensing issues. Persons who were arrested would be asked what had contributed to their behaviour, hopefully helping the offenders.
SE then reported the crime figures for Tissington SNPT area.
From October 2009 to October 2010
2 assaults (this was 1% of districts total)
There were 59 assaults in Ashbourne Town Centre (19% of districts assaults). These were all linked to alcohol, and were the highest for the whole of the Derbyshire Dales.
Tissington had no crimes recorded, maybe due to the adverse weather conditions. Marston SNPT area had a report of harassment. Ashbourne SNPT area had incident of snowballs being thrown at a window. Brookside area of Ashbourne had theft from shed. Ashbourne town centre had wine theft from store.
SE explained how Lend a Cam was utilised regarding anti-social behaviour and domestic violence issues. 100% success rate had been achieved and the camera had been deployed eight times.
SE also informed the meeting of the ShopWatch system that is now up and running in the more vulnerable stores and outlets in the town centre. The system has been very successful regarding shoplifting incidents as it allows the staff to be in direct contact with the Police Station cutting down the time for a response. SE explained that there were small teams of shoplifters operating; they usually target purses, handbags and wallets. They park strategically in the car parks for a quick exit from the town. Free purse chains were available from the Police Station to help with the issue and also available from certain stores.
The meeting was closed and the date of the next meeting was arranged for Wednesday 6 April 2011, 7.30pm at Fenny Bentley Church.
