Tissington Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team Steering Group Meeting Minutes
Tuesday 12 July – 7.30pm – Bradbourne Village Hall
Sgt Edwards (SE) opened the meeting and thanked all present for their attendance. The minutes were also read out.
Priority Profile/Issues for Tissington SNPT
Parking at Tissington – Road markings are now in place and are having a positive result within the village. The issue is now resolved.
Parking at Kniveton School – Another site meeting will be held on the 19 July 2011 at 3.30pm with all interested parties. This is due to an objection raised by member of the public. (Kate Cleveley – KC)
Community Speed Watch – This is ongoing at Mappleton village. In the past month two vehicles were sent warning letters regarding their speed.
Any other business
JB stated that he felt that although he had contacted Call Derbyshire regarding the bad condition of the roads, especially the potholes and drains, Highways had attended, but unfortunately the ‘filling in’ of the potholes was not permanent enough and were soon back to what they were when traffic travelled over them. This clearly needs addressing and could the Police help in any way.
SE replied that a Form 421 Highway Defect would be a possibility; this could be submitted to the Highways and Environmental Dept at DDDC. A site visit of the area mentioned (Kniveton village) would be undertaken by the Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team as soon as possible. (SE/KC)
KC suggested that the Councillor Gardy Purdy should be contacted also. (KC)
JB asked if anything could be done regarding extending the 40mph spped limit at the Sandybrook/Dovedale/Thorpe turning on the A515. It has always been a well known ‘dangerous’ area for vehicles turning onto the A515. Mr Bailey also expressed his concern regarding a very bright light at the entrance of Sandybrook Leisure Park (the entrance to the park is almost level with the fork off the A515 to Dovedale/Thorpe) this could be a possible hazard for drivers. (SE/KC)
SE explained that various speed limit changes could be possible. Ashley Knott at Police HQ would be informed of the concerns and a site visit made. (KC)
BW expressed her concern regarding the ‘Road Closed’ signs at Narlows Lane at Tissington Well dressing week.
SE explained that Road Closure signs and coning for the event are no longer dealt with by the Police. It is the responsibility of the Tissington Well dressing Committee to contact the relevant authorities regarding the signage; SE agreed that the road closure issue should be reviewed for next year as it was clearly not as effective for road users. (KC)
KC added that the subject would be raised at the next Tissington Parish Council meeting and a meeting with Simon Penfold and Sir Richard Fitzherbert (both organisers of the event) would be arranged to discuss future arrangements. (KC)
SE informed the meeting of a recent PCSO Review that was taking place. He asked the attendees for their views on how they see the role of the PCSO progressing and f more powers were appropriate, and a general view of the PCSO’s role in the community. It was explained that if they received more powers there would be a training issue and in the current financial climate this was possibly not feasible,. One of the new powers would be to detain. Several forces have this power already, British Transport Police being one of them.
DS thought is a good idea if the PCSO’s had more protection.
RF suggested that authorisation from a PC could be made over the radio to the PCSO if an occasion arose where of person needed to be detained.
SE replied that this would not be possible.
The general opinion was that PCSO’s should be equipped appropriately to do the ‘front line high visibility’ job safely and efficiently and in Ashbourne this was obviously working. Positive responses were given by the attendees at the meeting. SE noted all suggestions and observations in his notes.
SE informed the meeting of possible changes to the Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team areas. KC would be adding onto her area the villages of Carsington/Hognaston/Hopton. This was due to take effect at the end of August 2011.
SE then closed the meeting.
Next meeting – 20th October at 7.30pm at Thorpe Village Hall.
