The Secretary of State is seeking to fill a vacancy on the Peak District National Park Board, she is looking for a new member with a specialist knowledge of national park or regional issues. Applications are being sought for a new member to sit on the governing body of the Peak District National Park Authority.
Members are responsible for setting the policies and priorities of the authority and ensuring money and other resources are well used.
The authority has 30 members made up of:
- 16 local councillors appointed by district, borough, metropolitan or county councils
- eight members appointed by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for their specialist knowledge of national park issues and
- six members elected by parish councils to represent local communities.
Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman is looking to fill a vacancy among the members with specialist knowledge of national park or regional issues.
Applicants will be expected to reflect national interests in their decision-making while understanding and connecting with the local community and businesses.
The successful applicant will start in May, or as soon after as practical, and will initially serve for up to four years, with the option of re-appointment for up to four more years.
Members receive an allowance, plus expenses to attend meetings. They are expected to commit at least two or three days to the authority each month.
