Biography of Robert Markham:
Held by many to be one of his generation’s most talented pianists, Robert Markham combines an international career playing with teaching at the Birmingham Conservatoire. A notable alumnus of Chetham’s School of Music and the Juilliard School in New York, Robert has forged an international reputation. This started as a winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition and as a Finalist in the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow and was then followed by other major awards around the world. He has performed extensively throughout the UK, and in Europe, America and Asia. Much in demand as a soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic and London Mozart players, he is also dedicated to teaching young musicians, and is currently a tutor at the Birmingham Conservatoire and Leeds University. He has made a number of recordings and most recently collaborated with the Edinburgh String Quartet on a highly acclaimed CD of the works for piano and strings of Kenneth Leighton.
