Bags 2 School
Posted in School on Friday June 4, 2010| Leave a Comment »
Do you have any old clothes, curtains, bedding (though not pillows or duvets), soft toys, shoes, coats or blankets? How about having a good old clear out, putting them into bin bags and taking them down to the school on Wednesday? The Bags 2 School scheme is a school fund raiser which allows the school to raise significant funds in return for your old clothes. So, please have a hunt around and see if you can put together a bag or two for us. The School receives £200 per tonne so heavy old curtains are particularly valuable if you have any! Please bring your bags into Parwich School on by 9am on Tuesday 8th June.

Although two of our teachers are stranded abroad, unable to get home because of the Icelandic volcano ash hovering over Europe, our headteacher and both teaching assistants are in the UK and we have been able to get supply staff for this week so the school will be open.
And thanks to Debbie for letting us know that QEGs is closed Monday.

Parwich Primary School visits the Memorial Hall
Posted in Memorial hall, School on Monday March 22, 2010| 3 Comments »
Caroline Rodgers (headteacher of the primary school) and I (Lynne Goldsworthy, chair of governors of the primary school) were taken on a tour this lunchtime of the building site that is very fast turning into the new village memorial hall. The space and facilities that the school will be able to use really amazed and excited both of us. The hall will benefit the village school children hugely and, as we were walking round the site, we were already planning what we could do with the space.
One of the most obvious uses will be as an indoor sports facility for the children – they will be able to use it for indoor badminton, 5-a-side football, basketball, hockey, netball, gymnastics, dance etc. etc. The school will also be able to use it as an extended learning facility, for assemblies, for end of term productions, the list is endless.
The teaching staff will be visiting the hall shortly to enable them to start planning for its use. Governors of the school will also be invited to have a look around to see what a fabulous facility this will be for the school. We will be the envy of all the other village schools in the area and are very excited about being able to start using the hall as early as next term!

Why not have a look at the school website?
Posted in School on Tuesday February 9, 2010| 3 Comments »
For those of you who do not know, the school has its own website. You can click through to it from the “School” tab along the top of the blog, from the school logo on the right hand side of the blog or by clicking here. Some parts of the website are ready and others are under construction and will be developed and added to as time goes by. The aim of the website is to improve communication between the school and pupils, parents, governors and anyone else who might be interested in finding out a little bit more.
It’s worth coming back to look at the website from time to time to see what’s new. Let us know by commenting below if there is anything you would like to see on the website and we can pass your suggestions onto the school.
Please collect for the School ….

School on Friday

Assuming no new weather arrives between now and tomorrow morning, the school will once again open at 9.30am – watch the blog or listen to Radio Derby for news tomorrow morning if the weather changes. We will then see what the weather does over the weekend and what is predicted for early next week before deciding whether to revert to 8.30am start times from Monday onwards. We will post more news on Sunday.

Parwich Primary School – bad weather plans
Posted in School on Wednesday January 13, 2010| Leave a Comment »
This week, and as long as the bad weather and difficult driving conditions persist, we will make an early morning decision as to whether to try to open the school. We will post information on the blog and with radio Derby as to the times of opening and closing and whether children need to bring in a packed lunch.
Tomorrow and Friday, if we can open, we plan to start school at 9.30 and reduce the amount of break times the children are given. We may also ask children who normally have school meals to bring in packed lunches. Even if a decision is made to open and staff set off, there is still a possibility that we will be unable to open if the teachers cannot make it in. However, we plan to open even if even one teacher makes it in to school as long as there is also at least one teaching assistant present in school.
We apologise again for the inconvenience of the school not being open for business as usual but a combination of the weather, the closure of the B5056 and the fact that we no longer have a teacher living in the village has made it particularly difficult this year.

School CLOSED today
Posted in News, School on Monday January 11, 2010| 2 Comments »
A decision has now been taken not to open the school because the roads are worse than we had thought – sleet falling on ice has turned them into an ice rink and we have decided that it would be too dangerous for the teachers to attempt the roads into the village even if the more major roads are passable.
