By now all households in Alsop en le Dale, Ballidon, Parwich and Pikehall should have received a letter announcing the launch of Project Parwich and your opportunity to see the plans for our new Memorial Hall. However just in case you have not seen the letter here it is:
What WE CAN do for OUR New Village Memorial Hall
‘Project Parwich’
You will probably know that we are getting nearer to realising our dream for a new Parwich Memorial Hall. Obviously the cost of this is substantial and as a village we could not possibly find all the money ourselves. We hope to be successful with our £500,000 bid from the Big Lottery Fund and other grants for which the Fund Raising Group is busy applying. However every penny we can raise will go towards making the hall a better-equipped building. If you think of the actual building of the new hall as a slice of bread then we could make the whole thing tastier by fund raising for the jam! This is where every member of our community can help. We will be showing the Lottery Fund that we can help ourselves, we will be having fun and making our contribution all at the same time.
We all have things that we can do, interests and hobbies that could be used as a starting point for a fund raising event. You could be a good cook or a sportsman or a gardener or a craftsman, or generally good at helping out. You might know other people that could be of help to us – suppliers of food, marquees etc. Perhaps you have a field, barn or garden to offer. We don’t need to raise a particular amount – every penny will count. The important thing is to do things that will appeal to a wide range of people outside our immediate community but have fun ourselves while we are doing it. Over the years our villages have organised countless events and activities – a list of some of these is included to give us some ideas but obviously other suggestions are welcome. Some of us have other fund raising commitments but we hope you can find time for this important project too.
We are going to call this PROJECT PARWICH. The fund raising will last for just twelve months from June 1st 2008 to June 30th 2009. This is so we can all really make an effort and concentrate our energies in one big push. All you need to do is to say either you will organise something or help in some way. Once you make the offer then other people will always help. Ruby and Ted Hickmott (Tel 390 323) have offered to be the Events Co-ordinators and will be on hand to help and explain. The Committee will undertake all the advertising to make sure you get as much publicity as possible.
What do you do next?
This letter is being sent to every member of our community and to start the ball rolling and launch Project Parwich, there will be a get together with ‘Drinks and Nibbles’ on Wednesday May 7th at 7.30pm at the Memorial Hall where you will also be able to see the final architects’ plans before the planning application. If you have read so far and are thinking ‘great idea – as long as I don’t have to do anything’ then please change your mind and join in. ‘Do a little, do a lot, but do something’ Come along with your friends and family and make either a suggestion, an offer to organise something or to help some one else because –
Our Village Hall Needs You.

Good luck
