Although there are a number of stalls planned for the market on the Green on Wakes Saturday (from 11am onwards, Saturday 28th June 2008), there is still room for more. Individuals or local groups interested in running a stall should contact the Carnival and Recreation Committee (phone Barbara L on tel 279).
It is a great opportunity for local groups to promote themselves and to undertake fund raising activities, or for crafts folk to sell their wares, or for whatever you can think of (as long as it is legal and not indecent).

Are we getting the full Wakes programme posted on the site?
We will put up the details as soon as they come in.
Thank you 🙂
I dont know if any one can help please but I am looking for pictures for my personal collection of Sykes’ Fair when it visited Parwich for Wakes week or if any one has any other location in the Peaks also the late Timmy Rays Fair.
Will pay well for expenses etc
Thank you
Is the Sykes’ Fair you’re talking about the one run by Jack and Clara Sykes, which wintered in Calow, and travelled around the Chesterfield area (not sure how much farther afield it went)
Yes, this is the same fair. They just travelled around the area. The family still have the site where they over wintered at Calow.
There are some Sykes related photos in Gill Radcliffe’s “Voices: Women of a White Peak Village” which can be obtained from the Local History Society (see http://www.parwichhistory.com). Also we will pass your request on to a former Miss Sykes who lives in the village.
Thank you for all your most kind assistance, can the book be purchased from the village at all as I have to be in Parwich Saturday to report on the Wakes as I am a freelance journalist for the Fairgrounds trade paper Worlds Fair
Yes there should be copies in the Shop at the Sycamore Inn, which will be open all day.
