Parwich Methodist Chapel is due to be auctioned by Fidler & Taylor this evening (Thursday 3rd July) at 7pm at the Green Man Hotel in Ashbourne, unless sold before by private negotiation.

We understand the guide price is £40,000, though interested parties are advised to discuss any possible change of use with the Peak District National Park Authority’s planing service in advance.
(Note added Friday 4th July: the Chapel was sold for £76,000.)

For those wanting to start their own religion now might be the time, as ‘change of use’ would not be necessary.
How about starting a new religion called JIDDIAPism –
“Just because I Don’t agree with you and voice it, Doesn’t necessarily mean I don’t like you, or Am Personally attacking you”
or a splinter group to that – IDDOAPIDism –
“If the village Democratically Decides to take a course Of action, then is it Appropriate to block and undermine that at every Possible opportunity because I personally Don’t like it?”
The Chapel was sold at last night’s auction for £76,000.
Word at the Church Door has it that it was bought by a lady from Sheffield who plans to use it for some form of artists’ studio or gallery. This is not definite, but let us hope for a use that will protect the future of the building and perhaps retain the interior as largely a single room.
Best wishes to ‘the lady from Sheffield‘.
Ooo errr….Father Robert…I don’t think that you really mean anyone to set up either of those two religions do you? After all, we usually worship and revere the leaders of religion and what you are talking about are despots and I think President Mugabe is demonstrating that we already have one despot too many in the world today – ‘if you can’t rule them – bash them’.
Just to say ” Hello” and introduce myself to the community I’m Lee Addison from Sheffield, I bought the chapel, upon completion I will initially just arrange for all the repairs required to maintain and conserve the building for the future, I have no plans at present for its use but will keep you updated, great website and lovely village bye the way! and thanks for the goodwill from On the Fence that was nice.
Welcome to the village Lee. Looking forward to meeting you.
Yes, I echo Mike’s sentiments – welcome to Parwich Lee – it’s a great place full of lovely people :o) Bluebird – you’re right – no mplace for “ism’s” here, plenty enough strife in the world already!
Hi Lee – Welcome -If you want to meet some Parwich people the pub is generally a good place to start especially on Friday nights.
