This was the response I received when a work colleague asked me what I would be doing this evening. “Oh, I said, just a bit of ferret racing”.
Our traditional Friday Race Night at the Legion was well up to scratch. Local ferret breeders battled to find the finest ferret in the Thoroughbred Ferret Furlong – try saying that 10 times quickly! Local jockeys competed in the Legion Grand National, egged on by their sponsors and punters.
This evening marked the end of a wonderful Wakes week. Most of us are exhausted and need to go now for a bit of a lie down. Never mind lads and lasses….it’ll soon be next years Wakes!

LOOK!!! thats not fair, the guy in the middle strangling the poor ferrit, never mind the one next to him, he’s having a head start.
Well spotted “son of”. Looks like there’s gonna be a stewards enquiry here!
I want to know what the bricks are used for???
…and look to the right of the photo – what was a ballerina doing at the ferret race??
Dancing of course!
I think she had bet on the left or middle ferret and was giving the poor ferret on the right a boot to increase her chances of a win!
