5. Luke Banot

Having already won Battle of the Bands in Watford with his former band, Luke has recently won Battle of the Vox 2008 in his newly adopted city of Bath. His earliest memory is “sitting in his grandparents’ living room on Christmas Day hitting pots and pans, singing nursery rhymes and making the family have a day they will never forget.”
Influenced by Billy Joel, Lionel Richie and Stevie Wonder, Luke has created an acoustic ballad sound in his songwriting, with soul/r&b vocals.
Songs include: You’re The One For Me, Bye Bye.
Sample lyric: “Every time that I look into your eyes, I see a future with you and I. I can’t help what I feel, and I can’t help what I see, girl. Every time that you pass me by, my heart starts to beat in double time…”
6. Maheda

“Maheda are an acoustic, electronica, trip hop band that have been likened by the media and the industry to artists such as Massive Attack, Frou Frou, The Postal Service and Goldfrapp.”
“Lyrically balanced between the detailed and the dreamy, there is a brooding, sleepwalking quality to these tracks, and the singers drift in and out of the foreground with a curious blend of the passionate and the hazy.”
Songs include: Cupids Frustrations, The Man With The Movie Camera.
Sample lyric: “Roll the tape, keep a steady hand. Any mistake, just shoot the scene again. Standing back, always watching over. All his plans, viewed the whole world over.”

Origionally from Bournemouth, this mild mannered 24 year old has been gigging his unique brand of “Acoustica” for the past 4 years in and around the Midlands, and is somewhat of a household name on the Derby scene. His music blends the poetry and raw emotion of Damien Rice with the guitar playing and catchy hooks of John Mayer.”
Songs include: Maybe, Let Go, Hopelessly Helplessly, Momentum, Falling, Umbrella.
Sample lyric: “Who the hell are you to say what is right and what is wrong today? And who the hell are you to show me the way to go? ‘Cos I’ve been running out of new ideas since you’ve been gone…”
