What is raclette?
Raclette is a traditional Swiss dish mentioned in medieval writings as a nutritious meal consumed by peasants in mountainous Switzerland. Swiss cow herders used to take the cheese with them when they were moving their herds to or from the pastures up in the mountains. In the evenings around the campfire, they would place the cheese next to the fire and, when it had reached the perfect softness, scrape it on top of some bread.
These days, raclette cheese is normally melted using an electric table-top grill with small ‘pans’, known as coupelles. Slices of melted cheese are poured over food on the plate. The dish is accompanied by small firm potatoes, gherkins, pickled onions and dried meat such as prosciutto.
The Swiss eat their raclettes in a relaxed, informal, sociable atmosphere and normally accompany the food with white wine….the Parwich version will definitely keep this tradition up!
Could you please tell me where I could purchase a good quality raclette.I live at Kilburn near belper so would like to purchase one near by.
Thank you,
Derek
I know it would be more fun to buy from a real shop nearby, but your best bet is probably to go to a company like John Lewis. Click on the following link:

Amazon do quite a few as well, but seem to be a bit more expensive:
