The Ashbourne News Telegraph hits the mean streets of the Derbyshire again today (17/09/08). Here are some items of local interest:
- p1 & p4-5 The unveiling of the sculpture a Shrovetime Hug in Ashbourne last weekend. The paper is running an opinion poll and plans to have a video of the event on their website. See also Tim Baker’s Shrovetide blog.
- p2 Car fire in Parwich Parish last Friday with two fire engines and the police attending the blazing 4×4 in the Dale (the Newhaven road) near Middlemoor Farm in the early afternoon. (This was their second visit to Parwich that day, the earlier had been a false alarm following a toddler’s experiments with the telephone.) See also the Comment section “Busy days for police” on p.4.
- p3 The final phase of work to replace the sewers in Ashbourne is due to begin on Monday 22nd September near Ashbourne Leisure Centre, with work over the winter on Derby Road and the Old Derby Road. Check up if you are using this route to get to work, and if you don’t know the Hulland Ward/Western Underwood route to Derby find out about it soon.
- p6 Plans for the new Ashbourne hospital and associated services were outlined at last Friday’s 50+ Forum meeting.
- p.15 Feature on the photographer Professor Paul Hill of Bradbourne.
- p16 An excellent report on the Parwich Horticultural Show with photos of Nia after the judging and Mr & Mrs Oldfield with Mr & Mrs Knight inspecting the produce.
- p23 Good to see Debbie back in the paper calling for volunteers to support the Cyber Scouts and the Leys residential home. If you can help contact the Volunteer Centre on 373683 or debbie@vcdd.org.uk.
- p26 & 30 Hartington Wakes Sports and Show to be held this Sunday 21st September at Pikehall Racetrack. For more details see the Hartington Wakes website (http://www.hartingtonwakes.co.uk/)
- p33 Parwich Harvest Supper on Monday 22nd Sept. Tickets nearly sold out.
- p.52 The Darts Season got off to a quiet start last Thursday with Parwich Legion having a bye after the Cross withdrew, results not arrived from the Sycamore v the George & Dragon match, and the Legion ‘A’ lost to the Bowling Green. Best wishes to the Parwich teams tonight.
As always let us know about any others.
