When we first moved to the village we were intrigued by the swan that always was present on the water on the left-hand side of the B5056 between the Bentley Brook & Bradbourne Mill. It obviously didn’t take us that long to suss out that it was plastic, albeit pretty realistic looking. Visitors who came to stay often would remark on it. But when did it disappear? Was it the recent flood-waters that washed it away? If so, where is it now?

I was in the dentist’s waiting room in Ashbourne a while back passing the time reading The Stunner. There was an article on a white duck that had gone missing. Somebody had written in saying they thought they had seen it…..you’ve guessed it…..on a pond just off the B5056. I’m sure there must be more than one story surrounding this magnificent swan!
