Parwich artist Lewis Noble has spent a large part of the past year working within the grounds of the Chatsworth estate, and producing a collection of over thirty pictures on the theme of “Chatsworth Reflected”. The collection will be exhibited at Chatsworth from next Wednesday (March 11th), when the house and gardens re-open to the public for the 2009 season.
As part of the BBC’s Video Nation project, Lewis has been filmed at work on the collection, and talking about the creative processes that were involved. Click here to watch the five-minute film.

Feel The Rain Like an English Summer (Chatsworth House Reflected). Watercolour and mixed media on gesso panel. 30 x 30 cm

As per my earlier comment, we went to the opening of Chatsworth Reflected last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lewis’s work just keeps on getting stronger and this exhibition proves it.
The paintings show the estate from the fresh perspective of its reflections in the Derwent and the numerous pools and waterfalls that characterise Chatsworth. Some are peaceful and contemplative, others capture the force of the water as it flows over weirs.
In addition to the paintings, there were some very arresting ink drawings which were quiet rightly receiving a lot of attention from the guests.
Considering it was the first night, it was good to see so many red blobs!
