We are starting a new competition on the blog – how many sets of temporary traffic lights can you go through between Parwich and your destination. I will start the bidding at 5 this morning on the way from Parwich to Sainsburys in Ashbourne. Can anyone top that?

It is annoying, but I reckon you should enjoy the drive while you still can. In my estimation the whole section of road near the Bentley Brook Hotel is going to collapse in the next month or so, meaning a more scenic run to Ashbourne via Bradbourne or Tissington – not sure how many sets of temporary lights that involves at the moment, but I am sure the County Council will rig a few sets up to keep us on our toes.
If anybody fancies another alternative route to avoid the invasion of the traffic lights, try going through Oakover Park. The countryside is really starting to wake up and it brightens your morning watching the lambs playing.
Ashbourne is in traffic chaos today (Sunday), thanks to those accursed lights – my in-laws were stuck almost motionless for an hour, in a town centre jam.
Why so many temporary traffic lights at the moment? Theory number one: Maybe funding has been cut for the next financial year so the Council is trying to start as many jobs as possible before the end of this year.
Theory number two: The Council bought a job lot of traffic lights from China and are determined to use them.
Theory number three: The Council are trying to turn the streets of Derbyshire into one big disco lightshow so we can all have more fun.
One thing is for sure, it took me 1 hour and 20 minutes to get from Parwich to Derby via Ashbourne last Tuesday morning. I am definitely fed up with temporary lights and closed roads!
I dont think that traffic lights that have been in position for nearly two years could be descibed as ‘temporary’.
Indeed – those eternally bothersome B5056 lights aren’t even listed in Derbyshire County Council’s directory of temporary traffic lights, presumably because they’re permanent!
Incidentally, the three listed sets of temporary traffic lights in Ashbourne have all been placed there at the request of “M1 Gas Alliance”.
