When it says EVERYONE. Does it mean RBL members only?? Or does it mean Parwich RBL club members and their guests only?? (Including members of the RBL and RBL affiliated club(s) ) Or is it really everyone and there for an open Knight??
I have recently been informed that every one must be signed into the Parwich RBL club as a guest if they are not a member of PRBL and that ex members of PRBL club who have allowed their membership to expire may not be signed in or sign themselves in, even if they are a member of another affiliated RBL club.
Also, apparently, it is the responsibility of the visitor from another affiliated RBL club to sign themselves into the visitor’s book and it is the responsibility of the PRBL club members to sign their own guest’s in. i.e. the onus is upon the member/visitor, not PRBL club.
Also, the amount of people allowed in is to be limited in accordance to various regulations including fire regulations and liability insurance.
Does anyone know if the profits from this weekend’s entertainment are for the poppy appeal or any other charitable cause?
If so, it sounds like a worthwhile cause & worth a night out with a couple of guests.
In any event, have a great night. I like Chris & he’s a good entertainer and one of a dying breed being good hearted, genuine, non duplicitous & non judgemental.
P.S. Jim says Hi Chris, & to tell you that he’s sorry he won’t be able to come to see you on Saturday. He’s an ex member of PRBL club and now belongs to a RBL club in Birmingham, so he won’t be allowed in.
P.P.S. Maybe I’m wrong on that one, considering that it maybe an “open” night on Saturday, for a recognised charitable cause. Apparently, even though I am a member of PRBL club, I am not allowed to sign him in as my guest even though he’s a RBL member and a member of a club in Birmingham that is affiliated to RBL. Does anyone know if I have got this wrong with regards to “Open” night’s????
When it says everyone is welcome, it must mean everyone so I would take Jim along if I were you unless he is banned from the club for a misdemeanour? I last spoke to him in there last Wakes. Has he become a member of a different club since then?
I think you must have been told incorrectly because I know of several people who have moved from Parwich and who are no longer members of the Parwich club and I have never known them to be told they can’t use the club again because they aren’t members of the Parwich club anymore, several of them still do use the club when they are in the area and also if there is some thing is going on such as wakes or live music, so I should check it out because it doesn’t sound right to me.
I’ve only just seen ‘suggs’ post & better make this short cos it is a community site not a personal blog spot (though it has perhaps been used as such before, by others!)
Suggs, Jim has not been warned or banned for misbehaviour. It’s interesting to read your comments about other ex members of the PRBL being allowed in. Jim has not been a member of PRBL for around 3 years. What you have said is rather making their decision look like victimization. Please would you introduce yourself so that we can have a chat by emailing admin@holistichorsehealth.com or calling 390554?
Thanks. Lesley
P.S. The PRBL chairman informed Jim that he could not even go into the club on Christmas day!!
Have only just caught up with this thread but think some very interesting and pertinent points have been raised. In the light of decreasing membership of the RBL and younger generations’ ignorance of its existance and aims, it would be a shame if membership appeared to be exclusive in any way.
Due only to sheer laziness, I think our membership has lapsed – does this mean we can no longer have a drink in the Legion? Clarification would be welcome but in the meantime I had better rejoin.
Hi
I guess your membership must have expired last October (2008)? I think the renewal dates run from October to October so far as I can recall. If this be the case, then in accordance to PRBLC rule book, you were considered to be ‘in arrears’ for the first 8 weeks’ (rule 10 (3) ) and a ‘lapsed member’ (Rule 10 (4) ) after a further 8 weeks. i.e. A ‘lapsed member’ after a total of around 16 weeks of your membership becoming due for renewal. (Feb/March/09??)
The chairman of PRBL wrote to Jim last December saying that they (the committee I presume) had been reviewing the rules of the club and had realised that under rule 10(3) Jim should not have been allowed into the club and that the fact that he is a member of an affiliated club (Jim is a member of a RBL club in Birmingham) does not give him the automatic right to use the club. He went on to say that the fact that he had allowed his membership (of the PRBL club) to lapse means that “the committee has no alternative but to refuse any request from you to be allowed entry into the premises.” (In point of fact, Jim’s membership of PRBL club ‘lapsed’ around 3 years ago but he only received the letter from the committee last December!)
Have you ever been given a PRBLC rulebook? I hadn’t at any time, (in over 10 years of membership) and neither had Jim, so I duly wrote to the chairman enclosing the required 10p for the provision of a copy of the PRBL rulebook. My findings upon reading it were that at least some of the rules (including rule 10 (3) could be interpreted in more than just one way and that the PRBL club has probably not adhered with their own rules on several occasions to my knowledge.
I guess that it is the same as a lot of things, common sense has to be applied along with an understanding of why each rule (be it a rule of any club or society) has been introduced. I have concluded that PRBL club committee have a very different interpretation of the reasoning behind rule 10 (3) to both our own and others and would say that it may well be the case that PRBLC could appear to be ‘exclusive’ to some (though I might add, not ‘elitist’ I would not have thought!)
I have had a very interesting email to my business email address today from ‘suggs’ who did not want to make his identity known for quite understandable reasons. However, it has quite rightly been said, that the aims of The Royal British Legion (which PRBLC is affiliated to/with) are not to be exclusive, unfriendly, unjust or to practise prejudice, hypocrisy or bigotry in any way. In fact, just the opposite. Their aims are to “promote comradeship”, to serve others and not to be self-serving and to raise funds for servicemen/women in need of help and the poppy appeal etc.
Maybe the chairman/committee would care to give further clarification and leave a reply in this posting.
