The following was forwarded to us for publication from Colin Swindell, who was the second-placed candidate for the Dovedale division in the recent County Council elections:
As the Labour Party Candidate in the County Council Elections held on 4th June, may I express a heartfelt thanks to the many people who helped me to achieve such a respectable result.
First and foremost, thank you to everybody who put trust in me and voted for me in the election. I am aware that many people voted for me on personal merit, despite having allegiances with other political parties, and for this I am truly grateful.
Thank you to all the people who displayed window and garden posters. An overwhelming number were displayed, spurring me on with my campaign.
Thank you to all my friends and family who came out to vote for me, spent endless hours folding leaflets and walking the streets delivering them. I was overwhelmed and by your friendship, love and support. At no point was it taken for granted and it will never be forgotten.
Thank you to all my colleagues in the Labour Party who have been incredibly supportive during this election and over the past few years.
Thank you to my election agent, Adam Tkacz. I look forward to working alongside you throughout the rest of our political careers.
Thank you to my opponents, Simon Spencer and James Jennings, for a friendly fought election.
And a huge thank you to all the people who helped ‘behind the scenes’ in their own special way.
I would like to congratulate Cllr Simon Spencer on his election to the County Council. Although this election was not a victory for me, I promise to work with Cllr Spencer over the coming years to ensure that our rural services are protected, communities are sustained and that people’s needs are met. I personally will continue to work and campaign for the values and ideals that I believe in; community, equality and fairness.
Thanks,
Colin Swindell
