Outdoor recreation comments sought
Time is running out for people to make comments on the future of recreation facilities and services in the Peak District over the next decade.
The Peak District National Park Authority is holding a public consultation into the draft Peak District Recreation Strategy – called Active in the Outdoors – which will assist with the planning of services over the next decade. The strategy:
- Reviews existing recreation facilities and services
- Identifies areas that could be improved
- Considers the priorities for improving recreation facilities and services between now and 2020
The deadline for making comments is Friday 25 September. The authority particularly wants to hear from members of the public and local community groups, recreation groups and providers – representing activities ranging from abseiling through to windsurfing – as well as health and environmental organisations, local councils and government bodies.
Anyone interested can see the draft strategy at the Peak Park’s website and then give their views by filling in an online questionnaire.
The online survey asks recreation users:
- For their views on the overall approach and aims of the strategy
- If anything has been missed or they want to suggest further actions
- Whether they – or the group they represent – agree with the actions and will help to deliver them
- What they find distinctive about recreation provision in the Peak District
Anyone without Internet access at home or work can use a computer for free in their local library to see the draft strategy and complete the online questionnaire. Paper copies are also available by ringing 01629 816270.
The strategy has been produced with partners from sports governing bodies, recreation clubs, user groups, landowners, conservationists, local authorities, community and health representatives and recreation providers and promoters.
