We are delighted to report that we have seen the back of the drilling, no offence to the drillers. As you have probably gathered the last two weeks have not gone as smoothly as we all would have wished. This was due to mechanical breakdowns and geological conditions. The drillers have been extremely concerned about the intrusion of noise levels in the village and have been very considerate. Real thanks must go to those living in close proximity to the site, and particularly to Simon, Tracey-Ann and their young family for their positive attitude throughout; especially last night when the drilling had to go on rather late.
Tomorrow the steel will arrive and by the end of the week we should see the outline of the new hall emerging.

Unfortunately that’s not quite the whole story. Some residents had the balls to draw attention to the awful noise levels by telephoning Environmental Health. Officers agreed that measures could and SHOULD have been taken to reduce the decibel level from the outset; this was duly carried out AFTER contact by said Environmental Health officials.
Hey Ho! Must keep up the positive attitude and be very thankful that we don’t keep horses in our adjoining stable; they would be ricocheting off the walls by now!
Unfortunately I forgot to change the name at the heading of this comment – it is from AVRIL BOSTROM not Keith Parsons!
Just for the record, the drillers were willing for the noise level to reach unjustifiable levels in the first few days and we found it necessary to call in the Environmental Health Department before this noise was curbed, and even then it was virtually intolerable, since it went on for so many hours each day.
We were getting headaches from the noise while sitting in our own home with the windows shut.
Derbyshire Dales Environmental Health received several calls from unhappy residents, not just from us. So that’s not my idea of what your reporter calls the drillers being ‘very considerate’. It was not ‘very considerate’ to continue their very noisy work all through the weekend including not stopping on Sunday night until 8.30 pm. It was all about completing the job to a deadline – regardless of the residents. Why pretend otherwise? Believe me, I protested fulsomely to the drillers on Sunday night at 7.30pm. We had simply had enough. So let’s not have any more of this gushing nonsense about positive attitudes. We are completely fed up with this continuous intrusion in our lives, and justifiably so. These happy clappy comments to remind us that we live in a harmonious community seem to us hypocritical and unacceptable propaganda.
