PARWICH.ORG has been contacted by Kate Nelson from Derbyshire Sport, who is currently working to establish a network of local jogging groups in communities such as ours.
Kate says:
The Jog Derbyshire initiative is aimed at encouraging people who do little or no exercise to become more physically active, by starting to jog on a regular basis with people of similar ability levels (mainly beginners) as part of an organised jog group with a qualified Jog Leader.
I would more than happy to meet with any member of the parish council or community who may be interested in establishing or leading a Jog Derbyshire group in their area.
If anyone would like to help get a Parwich jogging group off the ground, then please e-mail us at parwich@hotmail.co.uk and we’ll put you in touch.
Here’s the Jog Derbyshire press release in full.
Jog Derbyshire is a county-wide scheme which runs jogging groups for anyone wishing to improve their fitness and give jogging a try.
Jog Derbyshire aims to introduce jogging to people who currently do little physical activity or those who would like to develop their jogging further. Our jog groups offer weekly jog sessions which are designed to gradually improve fitness levels and to help participants progress from walking to gentle jogging. All our jog groups are for adults (16+) and led by a trained Jog leader.
After a successful first year, with well over 30 jog groups now established throughout the county, Jog Derbyshire is now looking for more people who would like to train as a Jog Group Leader and run a Jog Derbyshire group in their local community.
Anyone can train to become a Jog Leader. No specific qualifications are required but our leaders do need to have a passion for jogging/running, bags of enthusiasm, motivation and good communication skills.
Alex Fraser, from Sporting Futures, is a Jog Leader who runs a weekly group in Chesterfield.
He said: “I got involved as I enjoy jogging and participating sport. I wanted to help people to improve their fitness.
“I like being a jog leader as I get to meet new people and I enjoy going jogging with them and helping them to improve.”
New members are also always welcome at any Jog Derbyshire group. To find details of your nearest group go to www.activederbyshire.co.uk/jog
