The Ashbourne News Telegraph (3rd March 2010) is available in the Shop at the Sycamore or on-line. The only mention of our area I could find was the Darts and Dominoes Leagues on p. 47, however do add a comment with anything I have missed. Other items that might be of interest include:
- p.1 & p.2 Council Tax payments are set to go up by 2.9%, less than inflation and the lowest raise for 15 years. The District Council are discussing this tomorrow and it is likely we will see increased fees (e.g. parking charges) and service cuts. Approximately 12% of our Council Tax goes to Derbyshire Dales District Council, with the majority, 70%, going to Derbyshire County Council. The County Council faces £60 million cuts in services over the next five years.
- p.6 The Hartington Cheese and Wine Company held a cheese tasting event at the the weekend in the Old Cheese Shop, it is good to see the Shop continues even though the Hartington Factory closed.
- p. 24 & 25 Two page photo spread of the 4th Battalion of the Mercian Regiment training in the snow at Upper Hulme. See the article for details of the Mercian Regiment’s visit to Ashbourne on Thursday 18th March. The paper’s website also has a video clip of the training event.
- p. 29 Sheena Bryden is helping celebrate Women’s World Day of Prayer on Friday at 2pm in the Reading Room at Snelston and 7-30pm at All Saint’s Church, Belle Vue Road, Ashbourne. Sheena will well known to many in Parwich and Alsop from her support of local church services, especially while we were with out a Vicar.
