Sue H is Chair of The Parwich First Responders. Here is her first update of 2011.
My New Year’s Resolution is to try and give more information about Parwich First Responders as a group. Anyone who knows my hopeless typing and computer skills will realise that this will amount to quite a challenge for me.
However, it needs doing and as Chair (again, all those who know me will be aware that I once forgot that I’d volunteered/ been persuaded to take on this role for a whole year!!) I’m going to attempt to keep it up for longer than just January.
So here goes:
Over the festive season, Parwich First Responders decorated a tree in the church as part of the Christmas Tree Festival and also had a very enjoyable get-together for both current and former responders. It was encouraging to know that our numbers will soon be boosted by the return of two responders who had taken a break from being on the rota, due to changes in circumstances.
On the other hand we say “Farewell and Thank You” to Don H. Don has been obliged to stop responding, due to reaching the upper age limit (which will remain a closely guarded secret!). Don was among the second wave of people who trained from the village and he has regularly filled a weekly slot on the rota. Mostly this turned out to be with me, and I shall miss the brief phone calls to confirm to one another that we were both able to log on to the rota. If memory serves, we only had one call out together. However, it is all about filling the rota to give Parwich cover in the unfortunate event of there being a life threatening medical emergency.
We are going to be very thin on the ground for the next month, as one of our responders who fills a lot of slots will be unavailable for a while. So, please could everyone try to stay well, as we are unlikely to be able to provide round the clock coverage!!!
Happy New Year to all and as ever, please remember that the first number you should dial in an emergency is 999.

It’s such a good service, Sue… hope you get some positive response. And let’s hope for a healthy good year for the residents of Parwich. H
I’ve taken the plunge and am going to train as a First Responder. I recently did a First Aid at work course, and found out that learning first aid is fun! If I can do it, anyone can. Are there any other first aid “pioneers” out there, who can join me, so I’m not a newby on my own?
