WAKES SATURDAY
Saturday is the first day of Parwich Wakes week, and there is a full programme of events starting from 9.45am.
9-45am – Odd Fellows Procession (starting at Sycamore Inn)
The march continues to Parwich Hall, Pool Croft and then…
11am – Church Service (at Parwich Church – all welcome)
Odd Fellows Procession continues after the Service to Croft Avenue, Nethergreen House and The Fold…
…followed by the Odd Fellows Dinner in the Memorial Hall.
11am to 4pm – Village Market & Entertainment on The Green
- Village & outside charity stalls offering a range of activities
- Children’s entertainment with games & attractions by Stepping Stones, Pre-School
- Face Painting by Lucy Burlinson
6pm – Carnival entrants gather at School steps
6-15pm – Fancy Dress Parade

11am – The Campsite ‘Songs of Praise’ Service (on Parson’s Croft, or
if wet in the Church),
12am – Fun and Games (with the campers at Parson’s Croft)
Tug of War & Volleyball + other games and a lot of water
6-pm Treasure Hunt – Assemble on The Green, whatever the weather
Junior Treasure Hunt for the Under 14’s – devised by Pippa Sillitoe
Village Treasure Hunt – over 13’s – devised by Tim Rider
8pm – Wakes Bar-B-Q (at the Legion, whatever the weather)
The Parwich British Legion is open from 1.30pm – 3.30pm then from 6-11pm
The Sycamore Inn is open all day till late

Registration for the Hill Race is by the Sycamore Inn
7pm – Local Mothers’ Race – For the Paula Lynam Trophy
7-30pm – Junior Hill Race – aprox. 1½ miles
Any children aged 14 years and under can enter.
Local Children are defined as those who were, or still are,
eligible to attend Parwich Primary School
- The Hauliers Trophy for the outright winner
- The BMAC Trophy for the first Girl (outright)
- The Russell Trophy for the first local boy
- The Foden Trophy for the first local girl
in each category there are individual trophies for the first three places
8pm – Senior Hill Race – aprox. 3½ miles – Entry £3
- The Harley Lowndes Cup for the outright winner *
- The Nick Frank Memorial Trophy for the first lady *
- The Russell Trophy for the first outright veteran
- The Wainright Cup for the first runner to the top of the Hill
- The Slater Trophy for the first local runner *

WAKES WEDNESDAY – New Events – 7pm
Children’s Bowls Event – Bowling Green
All Ages Golf Target Competition – Parsons Croft
Parwich Bowling Club have kindly organised an event for youngsters to introduce them to the delights of Green Bowls. All children are welcome to what should be an exciting new event. 
At the same time on Parsons Croft we have another new event – a target golf competition for all ages.

7.15pm – Children’s Film Show in the Memorial Hall, after the Ball Race.

WAKES FRIDAY
Parwich School Reunion
Celebration of the School’s 150th Anniversary
This year our village celebrates the anniversary of the building and opening of the School in 1861. Working in co-operation with the School we have arranged a special evening.
6pm – School Open – for everyone to look around
7.30pm – Slide Show of old pictures of Parwich School, including the Green Goddess’s TV visit in the 1980s
8.30pm – Cheese, Wine & Pate – an opportunity to chat and reminisce
Everyone is welcome to attend this evening’s event, even if you did not attend the school. It reflects an important part of our village over many years.

Astonished to see there is no strongman comp this year.
I have been to watch for the last three years and must say its the best night of the wakes week. Always a massive crowd.
