Everyone is invited to the Open Meeting on Community Renewable Energy, tomorrow (Tuesday) at 7.45pm in the Memorial Hall.
The meeting will be lead by John Youatt. Although he will cover the points below, it is a meeting set up to enable our village to find out more about how we can help ourselves with becoming more sustainable – something which becomes ever more relevant as energy prices continue to rise.
1. Formation of Sustainable Youlgrave : why & how
2. Access to grants for feasibility studies for larger communities projects such as Alport hydro scheme, Friden AD plant
3. Help & support for individual projects, eg solar/pv on house roof
4. Government policies, eg Feed-in-Tariffs
5. Planning difficulties

National Park Authority staff will always be very happy to talk to anyone in the community of Parwich about renewable energy, whether as a planning matter or where we may be able to help in other ways. I hope your speaker looks at ‘planning opportunities’ as well as ‘planning difficulties’. Parwich has, in practice, led the way amongst Peak District villages in actually doing things for sustainability, especially with your new Memorial Hall which everyone should applaud.

I attended last night’s meeting as an interested observer. The presentaion was organised by Rob Gosling in response to local responses gained at his wind turbine proposal exhibition, though Rob explained at the start that it would not be appropriate for him lead any community proposals.
It was great to hear of the success of John and his equally enthusiastic friends at SY. It has inspired me to look to install solar PV’s on a new outbuilding in my garden as a start.
John ceratinly painted a positive picture. His talk showed what a lot can be achieved by a community coming together to share responsibility, research and workload. SY are making great strides to a greener future. It will be interesting to see if the people or Parwich choose to get together with their near neighbours or work on their own and set up a similar group based on the SY ‘toolkit’.

The meeting was extremely informative and enlightening. A number of people who were unable to make the meeting have contacted the blog and a “full” report will appear on the blog as soon as it has been written!
