Can a 12 year old do this race? Maybe I am misunderstanding the advert, but there seem to be races for under 12 and over 18, but what about in between?
I am sorry, you are right, there is a gap. Partly as a result of the childrens races and the senior run being organised by different groups. The free childrens races are for under 12’s. Under the FRA rules ages are as at 1st January in the year of the competition, so if your child was 11 on January 1st she can run in the under 12’s race. The adult race is for over 16’s (this is because of the Fell Runners Association rules about distances). Over 16’s can compete in the senior race (under FRA rules), and their entry is free. for over 18’s the entry is £5.
Your 12 year old can run, but not officially in the race, and with Parents or Guardians permission and responsibility. We may need to look at providing a suitable course for 12 – 16 year olds in future, as we obviously don’t want them to be left out.
