Preparations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee
Wednesday 15th February – 7.30pm
Memorial Hall
Everyone is welcome to attend so that we can plan together how to make this a memorable and enjoyable village celebration.
Here are the initial ideas from the first meeting held on 3rd January regarding the celebrations will be held on the extra Bank Holiday on Tuesday 5th June.
A number of suggestions were raised by those that attended: Denis and Pauline Laycock, Nia Linnell, Matthew Harrison and Caroline Healy.
Initial ideas are:
To hold a tea time street party on the stretch of road from the pub down towards Blanche Meadow (so that this stretch of road could be closed off)
Entertainment for the children
Live Music
Fireworks
Beacon lighting on Monday 4th June to join with the national beacon lighting and further beacon and fireworks on Tuesday 5th
Lamplit Parade, using torches, tea lights or candles, led by an accordion player
BBQ
Celebration cake
Commemorative mugs
A letter will be sent to every household to request a voluntary contribution towards the costs and the Village Societies will also be approached.
These are just initial thoughts and we would greatly appreciate any suggestions and help to help take the plans further.
