I would like to let you know about an excellent experience I have just had with a new Parwich-based business called Generations Back Ltd.

Many people in the village know that Ian Pitts is very knowledgeable in the fields of local history and archaeology. I was interested to discover that Ian is also an expert at genealogy. For a long time, I had had it in mind to do some research into my own family tree but did not really have the know-how to undertake the exercise nor did I have the time to learn how to approach family history research. When Ian’s business was advertised on the parwich.org for the first time, I took the opportunity to make use of Ian’s expertise.

Ian approached the exercise in the most professional way. He started by discussing the project with me to understand my primary areas of interest in our family history. Ian then used a wide range of sources to produce a comprehensive report, providing information on my family as far back as 6 generations. He very thoroughly cross-checked the facts to ensure the accuracy of the information. That was only the beginning however; he was also able to find 19th century newspaper articles about family members, details from old wills, military records (e.g. Ian found dispatches from the Boer War that mentioned a family member) and bills of passage from ocean liners for ancestors that had emigrated to the USA.

Ian’s well structured and nicely presented report unearthed information about our family that would have been almost impossible for me to uncover myself.
