SE discussed current crime in the area and informed the meeting that the area was the second safest in force for anti-social behaviour and general crime.
Landrover thefts were still occurring but there had only been one in B Division South recently. Patrols after midnight had been stepped up and 4×4 vehicles stopped and checked during the early hours.
Theft of copper from power lines in the Atlow/Hognaston/Long Lane and Yeaveley areas have been reported, 8 incidents so far. Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately.
DS asked if the rumour that young children were being approached by males. SE replied that this was certain incidents that had happened in the Belper area not around Ashbourne.
Scrap metal thefts were still ongoing, but Police and Trading Standards were tightening up the rules and new regulations put in place, proof of identity and where scrap was sourced. The SmartWater system of testing and detecting items stolen is being utilised at scrap yards in Derbyshire.
CC was concerned regarding the theft of domestic oil. KC explained that only one incident of domestic oil theft from a tank had been reported to Police, and stressed that all thefts should be reported. This helps to piece together where and when the thefts take place.
Local speeding issues were being addressed by Community SpeedWatch and CREST (Casualty Reduction Enforcement Safety Team) on the A515 and A517. On occasions the MPS (Mobile Police Station) has been strategically placed at the side of the road displaying a 30mp flashing light sign at the rear of the vehicle. This has proved to be an effective deterrent for speeding vehicles.
Crime Prevention items and advice is available at the Police Station, including SmartWater kits.
The meeting was closed.
