If you hear the church bells ringing on Friday morning, then don’t worry, it really isn’t Sunday and World War III hasn’t started!
To mark the opening of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the London Organising Committee is calling for thousands of bells to be rung across the country, and St. Peter’s will be joining in.
The mass bell ringing will begin at 8.12am on Friday, and it will last for 3 minutes.

How exciting!
Despite the concerted efforts of our darling “balanced” British press and media to pick any conceivable hole they can and diminish the remarkable efforts of everyone involved in the organisation, the London games are nearly here and look like being one of the best organised Olympics in history.
It’s a great story to celebrate, and an unique opportunity for Britain to shine on the international stage. Thankfully Seb Coe and the London Olympic committee continue tirelessly to work to that end despite some of the mean spirited nit-picking we read and hear in the press, and the opportunistic actions of some who try to disrupt it for their own ends.
I’m really glad to hear that Parwich is playing a tiny part in joining in with the bell ringing – it should be an exciting few weeks thanks to the people who never gave up trying to make this extra-ordinary event happen!
I shall be at work by then so it will be wonderful to hear the amazing peal of bells from St Oswalds church – always a sound to gladden the heart.
Hopefully you will be on double chime cheryl.
According to the “All The Bells” website, it’s not just churches who will be taking part; the idea is for as many people as possible to pick up any bell, of any description, and to ring it as hard as they can for the full three minutes!
Hi Mike, I hope you realise that this suggestion may well cause widespread panic and stampedes in pubs across the land!.
