Better not say it too loudly, but we won our two matches last week and we have done the same again this week and one of the teams we beat are top of the league! Oh, and Edith Rider is playing out of her socks.
Matlock Tuesday League – Home – 21 August – Chatsworth.
Edith Rider and Rick Manning are on a bit of a roll. They won last week 21/8 and did the same this week. We won three out of the four games and although we did not do well in the fourth, because of Rick and Edith’s great win the win was complete . When we played Chatsworth on their green we won 71-49. On our green this week we won 71-53. How about that for consistency. Chatsworth are a little below us in the league and this good win will obviously keep them there. Penultimate game of the season next week, hopefully we will stay where we are in the league, mid table.
Next match – Away – Bradwell – 28 August 6.00pm.
Matlock Thursday Friendly League – Home – Matlock Park – 16 August.
Matlock are top of the division by a country mile, but they don’t have an Edith. Having lost two of the doubles 21-4 and 21-3, and losing 18-3 in the third we were lucky to get to double figures let alone win a game. Oh ye of little faith! It was Edith more than ably assisted by Ian Johnston, who not only got double figures, but got up to win the game 21-18. What a fight back. It still meant that we were down in the doubles 60-28.
In the singles games Edith was in crushing form again and Dot Hart won 15-0. You can’t do better than that. Could we actually begin to believe we could win the match? Could we win it, course we could. We won five out of the six games, and in the one we lost we were only 13-15 down. This gave us 88 points to 48, turning round the deficit from the doubles to give us a 116 to 108 win. What a match! Next week we play Bakewell. Can we win again? We still have our Edith.
Next match – Away- Bakewell- 30 August – 1.45pm.
